Shopping for a dishwasher can be overwhelming. Many of us want to narrow the field and simplify the search. Others want details on every option. In either case, it’s natural to gravitate toward familiar brand names. But is a dishwasher’s brand a good indicator of how well it will perform or how quiet and energy-efficient it will be?
We look at those questions—among many others—in our labs, and the results are reflected in our ratings of more than 120 models. But with so many models on the market, you might find you’re interested in a dishwasher that’s not in our ratings. That’s why we use our lab results and survey data to figure out which brands reliably produce the best dishwashers.

Best Dishwasher Brands
To find out which brands make the best dishwashers, we created a statistical model that incorporates the Overall Score of each dishwasher we’ve tested. We specifically looked at brands with at least four models in our ratings.
We looked at how well the dishwashers of a certain brand performed in our lab tests, how reliable and satisfying they were to the CR members we surveyed, and how easy they were to use, which is based on the number of features the dishwashers have.
We also considered price. If a manufacturer produces dishwashers at a lower price that perform well in our ratings, it will get a boost in the brand score compared with a brand that makes similarly performing higher-priced models.
In looking at overall brand scores, Bosch stood out as a dishwasher brand, followed by Miele and LG.
