    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2023 Acura MDX owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    12V battery

"At a stop light the whole electrical system shut down. Everything turned off and we couldn't turn on the emergency light to warn others. Then at a stop light to take the car into the dealership, the car shifted gears on its own. Scary stuff."

Anonymous, KS (2023 Acura MDX Tech Unsure)
Alarm or security system (excluding aftermarket systems)

"As noted before you have to hold the key up to the start button at least once a week because the car doesnt recognize the key as present."

    Anonymous, NY (2023 Acura MDX A-Spec 3.5-L V6)
    Keyless entry

"The keyless entry simply fails 7/10 times. You have to take the keys out of your pocket and hold it near the door and when you enter the car hold the emblem of the key near the start button. I have changed the batteries and replaced the key. Its a glitch."

    Anonymous, NY (2023 Acura MDX A-Spec 3.5-L V6)
    Other electrical system problem

"Random electrical issue with wiring shorting out caused the check engine soon light, shut down all electrical output like radio, AC, driving mode and warning lights said get to a dealer as soon as possible the all wheel drive and braking systems are not working properly. I was shocked the dealer would not submit the claim to Acura for warranty and they have had this happen often, a known issue. The dealer said it was an EPA regulation that changed the coating on the wire. The Acura MDX Type S Advanced that we purchased was about 75k, we paid sticker but was given a 1000.00 discount to take deliver in Dec. 2022."

    Anonymous A., MO (2023 Acura MDX Type-S 3.0-L V6 turbo)

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Torque converter

    "See note about transmission"

    Anonymous, ON (2023 Acura MDX 3.5-L V6)
    Transmission rebuild or replacement

"Car was 5 months old. All warning lights came on on July 8/23. "Emission problem, Transmission problem, Blind spot indicatior, cross traffic alert disabled, cameras disabled" lights and "D" drive indicator was flashing. Dealership said it shouldn't be driven in that state and had it towed in. Dealership stated they read a torque converter code and reset it per Acura guidelines. Warning lights came back almost immediately when car returned. Dealership replaced torque converter and added transmission fluid warmer. Car returned 10 days later as had to wait for parts. Within a few kms of driving it again, all warning lights came on again. Acura Canada said that they would then replace transmission except none were available. Car was finally returned Oct 6/23. Was without the car for three months. Local dealership gave me a new loaner for the duration although it was still quite disruptive as it didn't have the trailer hitch or roof rack that I require. The dealership felt it was probably an internal sensor in the transmission. They sent the transmission back to Acura Canada to be inspected."

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
