Audi A7 First Drive

Introduction

This stylish hatchback version of the A6 sacrifices some access, rear-seat room, and visibility in exchange for sportiness and looks. Still, with its rear hatch and generous interior, the A7 provides a healthy dollop of practicality. Handling is responsive and secure, and the ride is steady, though firm, particularly on the optional 20-inch tires. The interior is very luxurious, but the controls take some time to master. A mid-cycle freshening brought tweaks to nearly every engine. The 3.0-liter, supercharged V6 is good for 333 hp while a 450-hp, 4.0-liter V8 powers the S7. If you need more gusto, the RS 7's engine puts out 560 hp.
