Model History
2017-
Current Generation

An all-new Allroad is based on the redesigned A4. Following the same format as before, the Allroad features rugged styling details and slightly higher ride height. The 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine was smooth and punchy, and the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic was slick in the A4 that we tested. Handling is nimble and precise, the ride is supple, and the A4 feels tight-as-a-drum solid, with a very quiet cabin. A new interface for the infotainment system is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Allroad is compelling for buyers who expect more agility and a greater level of interior quality than the Subaru Outback offers and are willing to put up with the Audi's much higher price and tighter accommodations.

2013-2016
2013 Redesign Year

The Allroad, formerly the A4 Avant wagon, provides rugged styling details and extra ground clearance for an SUV-like appearance and light off-road capabilities. Agile handling makes it fun to drive and the cabin is quiet and very well finished. A spunky, turbocharged four-cylinder engine, matched with a slick eight-speed automatic, provides decent acceleration and 22 mpg overall, competitive with the best small SUVs. That engine got a modest horsepower boost for 2014. As nice as the Allroad is, the Audi Q5 SUV, with the same powertrain, costs less, has more rear-seat room and cargo space, and a greater towing capacity.
