First Take
Audi's high-performance AWD version of the A4 sedan uses the supercharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder. A six-speed manual transmission is standard and a seven-speed S-tronic automated manual is optional. On a track the car is very impressive, particularly in sport mode. It employs a system that splits torque from the front to rear and side to side to improve handling. The interior is well-finished and nicely appointed, with comfortable and supportive leather sport seats.

The S4 is a high-performance version of the small Audi A4. It used a version of the A4's engine and either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. All-wheel drive was standard. Acceleration is terrific, but handling isn't that much better than the regular A4, and the ride is somewhat stiff. The interior is cramped, especially in the rear seat.
