What Owners Say
"This engine had a class action lawsuit filed against BMW for faulty timing chain and chain guides design. My car mileage was just outside of the lawsuit dates so I had to pay for the full timing chain repair cost."
Anonymous, CO (2014 BMW X3 xDrive28i 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"The turbocharger failed after ten years and repair costs nearly equal the value of the care."
Anonymous, PA (2014 BMW X3 xDrive28i 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)""Turbo went out, cost almost 10000.00 to repair at dealership. Still cheaper than buying a new car at todays prices. Car is in perfect condition.""

""VANOS valves fault resulted in engine going in to low power mode. Issue occurred for more than one year. Would recover after car was turned off and sat for a few minutes. But would happen again when driven. Three different mechanics shops investigated. Quotes to fix were up to $7,000, and covered many possible issues but not VANOS until the last troubleshooting. This cost $3200 to replace VANOS valves and adjust timing. This BMW 2L turbo engine is most unreliable engine Ive ever owned. My recommendation is to avoid any BMW with this engine.""
