    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2018 Buick Enclave owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    Automatic climate control

"Apparently a known issue among Buicks. The AC controls for both my 2015 Lacrosse and spouse's 2018 Enclave regularly do nothing (e.g. hot exhaust when AC is on until you decrease the temp controls repeatedly to the lowest possible temp, and even then often requires starting and stopping AC). At times it can take ten (10) minutes in a hot car to get the AC to activate."

    Anonymous A., VA (2018 Buick Enclave Avenir 3.6-L V6)
    Refrigerant leaks

"took three trips to the shop, finally changed and went to a new shop. they said they were about to give up when they finally found the leak"

    Anonymous, LA (2018 Buick Enclave 3.6-L V6)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Exhaust leaks

"High purge exhaust leak. Capless gas tank a problem. Valve stuck open in emissions system. Very difficult to get to behind engine."

Anonymous, TN (2018 Buick Enclave Essence 3.6-L V6)
    Other/unsure

"The torque converter. It started not long after we bought it. Took a while to get it figured out but it was taken care of by warranty."

    Anonymous A., ND (2018 Buick Enclave 3.6-L V6)

    Steering And Suspension

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    What Owners Say

    Shocks or struts

"Started excessive side to side motion. Struts available from no one including GM until last month. Factory service rep could not locate- two dealers denied a problem. GM located front struts over 1000 miles away and $1500 and two weeks later problem was fixed."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Buick Enclave Avenir 3.6-L V6)
    Springs or torsion bars

"While replacing struts also replaced sway links and sway bar because GM did not supply sway bar bushings without a new sway bar. Will never buy another GM product after having bought 11 Buicks."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Buick Enclave Avenir 3.6-L V6)

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

Other major transmission & clutch problem

"The car began to have shifting issues after long drives of several hundred miles. And the car cooled down the problem went away. Finally one time it occurred and the check engine light came on. The dealer looked at the code and said a component in the transmission needed replaced. After several scheduling issues with the local dealership, the work was done. Then the transmission began leaking after long trips. It never leaked transmission fluid prior to it being serviced. I suspect the leakage was the result of the repair work. The leaks only occurred after long trips of at least a few hundred miles. I took a time lapse video of the leaking transmission and shared it with my dealership. They could not get the problem to occur during brief test drives. Finally, after the 4th return for leaks, at my request, they sent it to another dealership within their organization. The first time they sent it back saying they found nothing. It leaked again after a several hundred mile drive. The second time they took it they said they went over it again. Checked everything and it hasn't leaked since. My local dealer said they found nothing wrong or out of the issue or any other issue. Regardless, it was a very frustrating experience that I suspect had to do with the experience level of the technicians. They were short on certified transmission specialists and there were delays in getting the car serviced as well during this time. The Buick enclave is a great riding car and I purchased it for long distance drives. The capability, or lack of with the local technician(s) has caused me to consider other vehicle makes and models when I replace this car, probably at the end of the year. I had purchased an extended warranty when I bought the car so I only had to pay the deductible, but the frustration of the numerous returns in the dealerships and ability to fix it right the first time and then to determine the cause of the issue that I believe they caused was extremely frustrating."

    Paint And Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

    What Owners Say

    Loose exterior trim or moldings

"on the way home from a trip we started hearing a slight rattle. could not figure out from where inside the car. stopped for gas and happened to check the front around the headlight trim piece under the headlight and it was loose. where the chromed piece comes to a point under the headlight is loose. don't know if it was bumped or hit, but there are no visible marks, and I haven't figured out how to get a remedy for such a small little area. it started on the trip home, that we noticed it. it seems to happen only on the interstate at around 50 or 60 MPH, and I have not figured out how to resolve it."

    Anonymous, LA (2018 Buick Enclave 3.6-L V6)

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
