Read more about extended warrantiesThe second-generation Envision is positioned between the tiny Encore GX and the larger, three-row Enclave. It's a pleasant if unexciting luxury compact SUV that comes typically priced in the low $40,000s. It uses a responsive powertrain combination of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired to a nine-speed automatic, but fuel economy isn't stellar at 23 mpg overall. Both front- and all-wheel drive are available. The Envision rides smoothly and is quiet, although the larger, 20-inch tires that come on the top Avenir trim compromise ride comfort. Handling isn't particularly nimble but it’s very secure. The infotainment screen is easy to use but the push-pull gear selector setup is annoying because it's hard to operate without looking down. A refresh for 2024 included standard all-wheel drive and a new infotainment system and column-mounted gear selector. The Envision comes standard with FCW, AEB with pedestrian detection, BSW, and RCTW.
Buick's entry into the luxury compact SUV segment sits between the tiny Encore and giant Enclave. The China-built Envision was introduced with a smooth and quiet 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Handling is rather clumsy, however, and wind noise is pronounced. Oddly, the ride is a mixed bag of cushiness and harshness. The interior is well- finished and features a relatively roomy rear seat. Buick's suite of active safety equipment includes forward collision warning and lane departure mitigation systems, as well as optional automatic emergency braking were in 2016, the intro year. With the 2017 model year, forward-collision warning and blind-spot monitoring were no longer standard. The model line expanded for 2017, adding a non-turbo 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and front-wheel-drive, as well as lower levels of equipment. For 2019, a new nine-speed automatic transmission is now paired to the updated 2.0-liter turbo engine.
