    Cadillac Escalade First Drive
    Introduction
    The big, bulky Escalade is based on the Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon platform, and exhibits much better braking, handling, and ride characteristics than did the first-generation Escalade. Rear-drive models use GM's popular 5.3-liter, 285-hp V8, while all-wheel-drive Escalades get a 345-hp, 6.0-liter version. The interior is a dichotomy of luxurious plushness and cheap materials. A standard removable split third-row seat brings passenger capacity to eight. GM's OnStar driver-assistance system is also included. The EXT is a plush version of the Chevy Avalanche. The longer ESV version is based on the Chevrolet Suburban.
