    First Take
The big, bulky Escalade is based on the Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon platform. Rear-drive models use GM's popular 295-hp, 5.3-liter V8, while all-wheel-drive versions get a 345-hp, 6.0-liter version. The interior is a dichotomy of luxurious plushness and cheap materials. A removable split third-row seat brings passenger capacity to eight, but it's uncomfortable in the standard model. Second-row bucket seats are standard, with a bench available. The EXT is a plush version of the Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck. The longer ESV is based on the Suburban.
