CR's Take
Cadillac's entry in the exclusive luxury convertible niche is based on the Corvette, but unlike the Corvette it is powered by a sophisticated, smooth Northstar V8 mated to a five-speed automatic. The XLR's metal roof is power-retractable--a neat process that's achieved by a press of a button and takes about 30 seconds, similar to the one pioneered by Mercedes in the SLK. The interior is luxuriously appointed. The XLR is quick but doesn't feel as sporty to drive as an SL500. And unlike the Jaguar, it does not offer a small rear seat.
