    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2019 Chevrolet Bolt owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Antilock braking system (ABS)

"The braking system locked up and I had to have the 2019 Bolt towed to the Premiere/Seaside CHEVROLET dealership. They thought the issue was a faulty electronic braking module. That didnt fix the problem. After 7 months, they still dont know what the problem is. Ive been talking to a representative from the Chevrolet Concierge Service for the past month but they havent been much help. They also have refused to give me a loaner while the vehicle has been broken down since February 8, 2025. PLEASE help me if you can!"

Anonymous A., CA (2019 Chevrolet Bolt LT Electric)
    Calipers

"Brakes grabbed and did not release several times. Wheels were too hot to touch after that."

Anonymous, OR (2019 Chevrolet Bolt Premier Electric)

"Both rear calipers seized and had to be replaced"

Anonymous A., CT (2019 Chevrolet Bolt LT Electric)
    Other brakes problem

"We use one pedal driving a lot and apparently the dealer says we allowed rust to develop on the rotors and calipers. Took quite a while to diagnose why the front passenger tire kept heating up - forced us to pull over and lower tire pressure. I think this is an issue for hybrid and electric cars. They haven't been designed for infrequent use."

    Rotors

"Brakes grabbed and did not release several times. Wheels were too hot to touch after this."

Anonymous, OR (2019 Chevrolet Bolt Premier Electric)

"Rotors scored and replaced with calipers"

Anonymous A., CT (2019 Chevrolet Bolt LT Electric)

"Caliper locked up on rotor due to corrision rotors and calipers replaced"

Anonymous, MI (2019 Chevrolet Bolt LT Electric)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Apple CarPlay

"It constantly drops out, the dealer tried to fix it but couldnt, its under a platinum warranty but its impossible to get it fixed"

Anonymous, NY (2019 Chevrolet Bolt LT Electric)
    Backup or other camera/sensors

"Sometimes backup camera doesnt disengage so when driving the first few miles you get a view of the road"

Anonymous, VA (2019 Chevrolet Bolt Premier Electric)
    Display screen freezes up

"Display screen turns black or freezes with the bolt logo."

Anonymous, NC (2019 Chevrolet Bolt Premier Electric)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"This might be a problem for Apple. I subscribe to Sirius XM and when I plug in my iPhone to charge, the Bolt's info screen is overridden by the Apple Play interface. This requires me to toggle back to the listed satellite stations, which are my defaults for listening while I drive."

Anonymous, (2019 Chevrolet Bolt Premier Electric)
    Steering wheel controls

"Roller knob shaft on steering wheel controlling radio volume broke. Fixed it myself using a Harbor Freight hex key for less than $2."

Anonymous, CT (2019 Chevrolet Bolt Premier Electric)

    What Owners Say

Anonymous, TN (2019 Chevrolet Bolt Premier Electric)
    Electric/hybrid battery pack replacement

""recall, took awahile , but battery replaced at no cost. No problem with original battery until reolaced""

Anonymous, HI (2019 Chevrolet Bolt LT Electric)

"Manufacturer recall due to potential fire during charging"

Anonymous, MI (2019 Chevrolet Bolt LT Electric)

    EV Charging

Won't charge at home; won't work with some public chargers; won't fully charge; charge connection; charge port door.

    What Owners Say

    Charging app problem

"Many charging stations won't show up on the app so you can't use them! The closest charging stations to our house, a whole bank of them, won't show up on the app, so they're useless to us. Driving this car to Detroit for Christmas, we almost ran out of charge and were stranded because the charging station we went to on our charging app had bad QR codes that didn't open into anything, so we couldn't use them. We had to backtrack 17 miles and almost didn't make it."

Anonymous A., WI (2019 Chevrolet Bolt LT Electric)
    Won't fully charge

"During a battery recall they upgraded me to the next generation EV battery, which at first got the estimated range of 300+ miles when fully charged. Now it seems to charge only to about 240, even in 100+-degree daytime temperatures."

Anonymous, (2019 Chevrolet Bolt Premier Electric)
Won't work with some public chargers

"Since we don't have a Tesla and many chargers are Tesla, we bought a very expensive adapter so we could use Tesla chargers. It didn't work. We ended up having to drive back and forth in strange cities in the middle of the night trying to find non-Tesla chargers."

Anonymous A., WI (2019 Chevrolet Bolt LT Electric)
