The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2017 Chevrolet Equinox owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.

    What Owners Say

    Engine rebuild or replacement

"The dealer couldn't complete replacement of rods and pistons nor the timing chain. Replace with another used engine with a 100,000 miles too."

Anonymous, MD (2017 Chevrolet Equinox 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Frozen PCV CAUSING pressure build up in crank case causing crank seal to fail resulting in loss of oil until total failure from lack of lubricants."

Anonymous, MI (2017 Chevrolet Equinox 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Cam timing chain jumped. Engine went into limp-home mode. By the time the engine stopped running altogether, the pistons had contacted the valves and done catastrophic damage."

Anonymous, MI (2017 Chevrolet Equinox LT 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The car came with 101,000 miles on it , and less then 3,000 miles engine problem started."

Anonymous, MD (2017 Chevrolet Equinox LS 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
    Other major engine problem

"$3500 to replace a seal which could have been avoided for a car with known pvc valve problem in the winter freezing up. Car was servised regularly at a dealer"

    Anonymous A., (2017 Chevrolet Equinox LT 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
    Timing belt or chain

"The engine burns oil very bad."

Anonymous, MD (2017 Chevrolet Equinox LS 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Couldn't repair the engine, so they replace with another used engine."

Anonymous, MD (2017 Chevrolet Equinox 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Muffler

"First muffler i had to replace in a long time"

    Anonymous A., (2017 Chevrolet Equinox LT 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
    Other/unsure

    "Needed four new tires"

    Anonymous, FL (2017 Chevrolet Equinox 3.6-L V6)

"Replace both cv joint and cam sensor"

    Anonymous, FL (2017 Chevrolet Equinox L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Rear seal failed and no warning lights or sounds went off to notify me the oil was low. Luckily I was at a family members home and when I left they noticed a large puddle of oil where I was parked and they notified me right away. If I wouldnt have been notified the engine could have seized up while I would have been going down the highway at 70MPH. I consider this an extreme safety hazard. When searched on the internet I found numerous complaints of this issue and some stating the company will not back up this issue. I believe a recall should be done on this and consumers should be reimbursed for their problem."

Anonymous, WI (2017 Chevrolet Equinox 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

    "Power steering pump"

Anonymous, ON (2017 Chevrolet Equinox LT 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

    Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Anonymous, (2017 Chevrolet Equinox L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

    "fuel injection thing needed replaced"

Anonymous, FL (2017 Chevrolet Equinox LT 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Sludge build up and plugged vvt. 5 k oil changed with 5w-30 Delos oil. 79000 miles"

Anonymous A., NY (2017 Chevrolet Equinox LT 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The exhaust cam solenoid failed. It was easy to replace myself for less then $100. The biggest problem was the electrical connector did not come of easily and I damaged it getting it disconnected. It was still usable."

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
