    Paint And Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

    What Owners Say

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"Finish on hood & roof faded"

    Anonymous A., (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)
    Rust

"Rust around rear wheel wells. Common problem."

    Anonymous A., MA (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

"For the last couple decades Chevrolet has applied a waxy coating on the bare metal of their truck frames. This is a disastrous practice for anyone living in salted road areas. The factory waxy coating quickly fails allowing serious rust to develop but it also prevents applying any aftermarket products. That Chevrolet has continued with this waxy coating is criminal."

    Anonymous, NH (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

    Steering And Suspension

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Transmission rebuild or replacement

"Like many other owners of Chevrolet/GM trucks the transmission cooling lines rusted through allowing the trans fluid to leak out without realizing this was happening. Suddenly the transmission started acting poorly, shifting poorly. Upon inspection the rusted lines were discovered and replaced. But serious damage had been done causing the transmission to not shift into reverse or above 2nd gear. The transmission and torque converter had to be replaced with a used/remanufactured transmission. These critical transmission cooling lines should be made of stainless steel or some other more durable product and/or the transmission should include some type of sensor to detect low fluid levels to prevent this type of damage."

    Anonymous, NH (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

    What Owners Say

    Head gasket

"The head gasket leaks are intermittent. I started noticing it within the past 6 months. I maintain my own vehicle so will at some point replace the motor."

    Anonymous A., MA (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3-L V8)

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
