The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    A/C compressor

"There was a leak at the A/C compressor causing A/C failure. The A/C compressor was replaced under warranty."

    Anonymous A., CA (2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

"The vehicle was only two years old and the A/C compressor failed and had to be replaced. I have owned several vehicles and never experienced any issues with the A/C system. I can't help but feel this was due to poor manufacturing standards. Since the Covid pandemic it seems to that product quality has fallen immensely in all areas of manufacturing. It seems we are paying more money for less reliable equipment"

    Anonymous, AB (2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RST 5.3-L V8)
    Refrigerant leaks

"Leak was at the A/C compressor causing A/C compressor to fail. The A/C compressor was replaced under warranty and the A/C system was recharged."

    Anonymous A., CA (2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

"Less than a year after I had the A/C compressor replaced due to failure, the A/C failed again. This time it was due to a refrigerant leak. The dealer repcharged the A/C refrigerant but after several troublshooting step , they were unable to find what had caused the leak or where the leak was located. They suspect it may be in the compressor somewhere. I expect this will not be the last time I have this problem. Sounds like poor quality control during manufacturing steps."

    Anonymous, AB (2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RST 5.3-L V8)

    Fuel System/Emissions

Sensors (O₂, or oxygen, sensor), emission-control devices (includes EGR), fuel-injection system, fuel gauge/sender, fuel pump, problems filling up the tank.

    What Owners Say

    Emission control devices (includes EGR)

"Defective DEF tank & turbo intercooler air pump"

Anonymous, MB (2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country 3.0-L 6 Cyl diesel)

"Diesel Reuben had to be replaced."

    Anonymous A., SC (2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 3.0-L 6 Cyl diesel)
Sensors (includes O2 or oxygen sensor)

"CEL came on. Diesel regen system was gone."

    Anonymous A., SC (2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 3.0-L 6 Cyl diesel)

    Noises And Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Powertrain cooling leaks

"Slow coolant leak. 3 trips to dealerships. Faulty reservoir cap found at dealership number 3 problem solved"

Anonymous, IL (2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ 3.0-L 6 Cyl diesel)
    Squeaks or rattles

"Clunking noise in rear of vehicle when entering or exiting a driveway unable to find cause. Dealer ship even replaced rear leaf springs still making noise."

Anonymous, IL (2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ 3.0-L 6 Cyl diesel)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Exhaust leaks

"The exhaust leak was detected by the emission system sensors, I could not smell exhaust or hear any noises. The annoying part is when there is an emissions fault the engine fan stays on which is noisy and sometimes you will get a vehicle speed derate. It is programmed to react that way to prompt you to go to the dealer but if you have to wait for an appointment it could be days or weeks."

Anonymous, WA (2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ 3.0-L 6 Cyl diesel)
    Other exhaust system problem

"One day I received a message on the screen that the emission system requires service and warned me of impending speed derange. The engine fan will run constantly whenever there is an emissions fault which is extremely annoying. I went to the dealer the next day but it took a week to resolve, a couple days in queue and then waiting for parts. Less than a day for the repair."

Anonymous, WA (2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ 3.0-L 6 Cyl diesel)
