    First Take
The Chevy Tahoe/GMC Yukon twins moved to a more-refined platform for 2000, improving handling, braking, and refinement. A third row of seats allows the Tahoe to seat as many as nine. These SUVs can also tow a heavy trailer, and they offer a smooth and quiet ride. Both available V8s feel strong and are more efficient than the older engines. A smooth-shifting automatic is another plus. Two-wheel-drive models are available with traction control, while four-wheel-drive models have a selectable drive system and a low range.
