Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2018 Chevrolet Traverse owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

/ 5

What Owners Say

Catalytic converter

"Noticed "gas smell" inside car when idling. Had it inspected and replaced within a few weeks of noticing problem. We suspected that someone attempted to steal the catalytic converter but failed due to damage noted by our United Tire service team who we have used for several years"

Anonymous, PA (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

"I've had the CC replaced before warranty expired, and now my check engine light is back on 3 years later and I had the code read and it's the CC again"

Anonymous, FL (2018 Chevrolet Traverse 3.6-L V6)
Exhaust leaks

"Stainless steel exhaust system except for one flexible elbow(?) that developed a hole that wasnt covered by warranty."

Anonymous, NY (2018 Chevrolet Traverse High Country 3.6-L V6)

"This is the third time this exhaust issue has happened: Check engine light comes on, Dealership tells me there is a hole somewhere in exhaust system and must be completely replaced, I am forced to pay $4,000 to dealership or approximately $3,100 to third party (Midas) to correct issue."

Anonymous, NJ (2018 Chevrolet Traverse 3.6-L V6)
Pipes

"Easily corrodes, breaks, separates. Seems to be poorly designed, manufactured, installed."

Anonymous, AR (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LS 3.6-L V6)

"This is the third time this vehicle has experienced some kind of issue in the exhaust pipes. Very expensive to correct - $3500 plus"

Anonymous, NJ (2018 Chevrolet Traverse 3.6-L V6)

Transmission Minor

Gear selector and linkage, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks.

/ 5

What Owners Say

Gear selector or linkage

"It would not allow the car to turn off completely. It kept saying to shift to park while it was in park. The warning ding would continue. I had to leave the car running for an hour before it would stop."

Anonymous, NY (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)
Rough shifting

"Dealer changed fluid and that slowed the problem"

Anonymous A., NE (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

"The transmission does not shift when accelerating, this problem is intermittent. Causes the engine to roar and the vehicle to lose speed on (even small) hills. Dangerous and not safe to operate."

Anonymous, VA (2018 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

/ 5

What Owners Say

Torque converter

"Torque converter issue was the main mechanical problem, but concern about possible damage to transmission from torque converter materials in fluid required replacement of transmission as well, otherwise the repair shops would not guarantee the work."

Anonymous, MD (2018 Chevrolet Traverse RS 3.6-L V6)
Transmission rebuild or replacement

"Stuttering from torque converter slippage under mild acceleration started under 5,000 but dealer reported no abnormal issue in his opinion. Near end of warranty period dealer acknowledged issue, claimed that a recent service bulletin advised flushing and replacing transmission fluid. This did not fix the issue; warranty subsequently expired."

Anonymous, MD (2018 Chevrolet Traverse RS 3.6-L V6)

/ 5

When the parking brake wouldnt disengage, we couldnt drive it. We took it into Chevrolet in June and got the actuator replaced"
