The Durango straddles the mid-size and large SUV categories. It doesn't shine when compared against either. Equipped with the 5.7-liter V8, it is a gas-guzzler yielding 13 mpg overall. Acceleration, on the other hand, is quick. Braking is so-so and handling is clumsy, though ultimately secure. The interior is roomy enough, but not appreciably more so than more modern car-based competitors. Interior fit and finish are unimpressive. Towing capacity is the Durango's forte but the soft suspension reduces confidence when pulling a heavy load.
