    Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.

    What Owners Say

    Engine rebuild or replacement

"January 2025 white white smoke began pouring from the tailpipe. The problem was diagnosed as a bad head gasket. it required a complete engine replacement."

Anonymous, NJ (2017 Ford Edge SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    "Coolant intrusion in cylinders"

Anonymous, WA (2017 Ford Edge SEL 3.5-L V6)

"Design flaw on the top face of block which reduced the cross sectional area that the head gasket seated on. This resulted in head gasket failure allowing coolant into the cylinders. Ford paid 83% of the engine replacement cost and provided a vehicle when our car was in the shop. Model year 2018 forward issue was redesigned."

Anonymous, WI (2017 Ford Edge SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"I started losing coolant, but did not have any leaks on the floor of the garage. I had to add more coolant several times over the next few months. One day the car overheated & I had to park it until it cooled down, then add coolant. I took it to a trusted auto repair shop. They told me there is a Ford Technical Service Bulletin (19-2208) on the issue and the fix is to replace the engine. Im going to get rid of the car. The EcoBoost engine has a defect that causes coolant to leak into the engine cylinders. The only fix for this is replacing the engine. There is a class-action suit. It effect vehicles with that engine. 2013-2019 Ford Escapes, 2013-2019 Ford Fusions, 2015-2018 Ford Edges, 2016-2019 Lincoln MKCs, and 2016-2019 Lincoln MKZs"

Anonymous, NE (2017 Ford Edge Titanium 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Coolant leaking into valve. Engine died at 74000 miles. No recalls or replacement from Ford. Put new engine in at my own expense. Ecoboost engine are terrible."

Anonymous, NJ (2017 Ford Edge SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Check engine light came on after a 4 hour trip Was able to still drive the car Went to ford dealership and they told me it wasnt uncommon and I needed a new engine I called ford motor Corp ( I was a loyal ford customer) and they offer a approx 40% discount on repair Unacceptable given the miles on the vehicle I bought a Toyota"

Anonymous, NV (2017 Ford Edge Titanium 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

""At 85,000 miles, the check-engine light came on. Within days the engine was running rough, and within a week it had died. The diagnosis was a head-gasket failure leading to total engine failure and replacement, approximately $10,000.""

Anonymous, MI (2017 Ford Edge Titanium 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

""The engine started consuming coolant at 128,000 miles. Apparently this is a known issue with Ford 2.0 L Ecoboost engines. The cylinder wall had cracked at the head. The engine was not repairable and it cost $7,000 to replace the long block. Ford had issued a technical bulletin outlining the issue but there was no assistance from Ford on repairing the issue. Apparently some engines were not even making it to 100k miles. My family are not likely to purchase a Ford in the near future unless they can confirm they have corrected their quality issues. The Edge has already had a replacement wheel bearing, transfer case and transmission flexplate put into it. It has been quite the lemon!""

Anonymous, MI (2017 Ford Edge Titanium 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Cracks developed in the engine around the channels that cool the engine. (The engine problems resulted in the subsequent transmission failure, but I dont understand it all.)"

    "Do not remember."

Anonymous, WA (2017 Ford Edge SEL 2.7-L V6 turbo)
    Wheel bearings

"At about 20,000 miles the right front wheel bearing started making noise and was replaced under warranty."

Anonymous, TX (2017 Ford Edge Sport 2.7-L V6 turbo)

""I had diagnosed it myself as a wheel bearing issue. Dealership told me it was the differential and that the part was no longer available so the transmission would have to be replaced. Waiting for Ford's approval for replacement. Got the approval from Ford approximately 7 months after my first visit for this issue. When the part came in, I got the call to bring my vehicle in for the transmission replacement. When they went to replace the transmission apparantley I was informed that it was not the transmission...It was a wheel bearing. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed. Thank god I had purchased an Extended Warranty.""

Anonymous, WA (2017 Ford Edge SEL 3.5-L V6)

    Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, four-wheel-drive/all-wheel-drive components, driveline vibration, electrical failure, traction control, electronic stability control.

    What Owners Say

    Driveshaft or axle

""Boot on axleshaft failed and the shaft was replaced. Ford quoted $600 to repair but part was on national backorder. Private shops insisted on doing a complete inspection of the car before quoting me on the driveshaft, so I made the repair myself. Part was $160 and it took an afternoon for the repair. Should now I restore old cars as a hobby so am more mechanical than most. I rarely take any car I own to a garage or dealer for repairs.""

    Tailgate, hatch or trunk

"The tailgate would stop working periodically. I went food shopping one day with the groceries in the back and when I got home I couldnt open the tailgate. I had to put the backseats down and climb in to reach the groceries. At 78 years old that wasnt fun. This started happening last October. Took the car to Ford. They said the parts were back ordered. I finally got the car fixed in December costing over $1200. after they fix the car The back hatch was not adjustable. I am 53 and I have to duck to get into the back of the car. When I went back to the dealership They said they would have to diagnose it that something else must be wrong. After spending $1200 I wasnt about to spend anymore on it. I will just duck."
