"Spring of 2023 power steering was starting to feel that more force was needed to turn steering wheel and after a month power steering assist was lost. Ford service department explained that there were problems with power steering in Escapes and that there was a recall on Escapes that came from certain factories. Our serial number did not match with those factories so we were on the hook for repairs. Two routes for repairs were explained for the power steering assist sensor that was at fault. 1) Reprogram the sensor $200 - $300 and see if that would work permanently or for a while. 2) Replace steering shaft and sensor with used $1600 or new $2300. We went with reprogram and it worked for three months. We ordered new steering shaft and sensor. Waited for two months for parts. I did what I should have done at the start. I went to my mechanic and he knew of the issue and in a week I had a new sensor and did not need a shaft. $900. Problem fixed as of now."
