    What Owners Say

    Engine rebuild or replacement

"Known manufacturing defect. Crack developed in block that would allow antifreeze to seep into cylinder when cool causing the engine to run rough when started. Engine replaced after 6 years under special warranty extension."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Ford Escape SEL 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The people was discovered when a mechanic drove the car while looking for something else. Covered under extended warranty"

Anonymous A., FL (2018 Ford Escape SEL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"It started when the car was 6-12 months old. Oil continued to leak periodically until the engine was completely replaced - bottom and top portion (per Ford service rep)"

Anonymous, MI (2018 Ford Escape SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"We started having problems in the Fall of '23. Our local Ford dealer was not helpful. Check engine light was constantly on, car was shaking real bad, terrible gas mileage, power was being lost. We had a mechanic look at it and they said antifreeze was leaking into one of the cylinders. They changed plugs and coils 3 times. Finally we felt the car was too dangerous to drive and went directly to a local Ford dealership. After a lot of back and forth, phone calls, them not responding, etc., they told us to leave the car and did not know when they would be able to fix it. It sat there 2 months and we had to get a rental. They ended up having to replace the whole engine. We were thankful to have an extended warranty but it did not cover everything. We would have had to junk the car if we did not have that warranty. We ended paying a few thousand dollars out of pocket. When the job was complete, I spoke to a service manager who worked at another Ford dealership prior to this one. He said Ford was aware of the problem and reluctant to do a recall. It is becoming more and more common and Ford will not acknowledge it. He also told me I should not have had to pay for anything including the deductible. He recommended I call Ford but I am at a loss as to how to even start this process. We have bought Fords for decades, but never will again."

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
