    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Torque converter

"I have never had a torque converter problem before with any of the many cars is have ever owned. It cost $3000.00 to have it replaced."

    Anonymous A., OH (2019 Ford Escape S 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Transmission rebuild or replacement

"The transmission failed completely and suddenly while driving on the highway at 64,000 miles. There were no indicator lights that suggested a problem. I had it towed to the dealer I purchased it from. Towing and repair was over $10,000. I thought Ford might give partial warranty coverage since it was only 4000 miles out of warranty but they refused. This surprised me and the GM at the dealership especially since the car had a complete engine replacement under warranty at 40,000 miles. The dealership said there is a possibility that the transmission failure could have been related to the engine failure."

Anonymous A., NJ (2019 Ford Escape Titanium 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"I experienced slight shifting while driving along with hesitation when I was pressing on the accelerator. I immediately brought the car to a Ford dealership and they ran diagnostics. As a result, the transmission was replaced. It was a new transmission. The problem is now resolved."

Anonymous, NC (2019 Ford Escape Unsure)

"Transmission fault code Dealer did not have a certified transmission mechanic sent to another dealer and warranty covered replacement in shop 6 months . I had to rent a vehicle and did not get reimbursed as promised."

Anonymous, WI (2019 Ford Escape SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Came on abruptly. Would not drive. The coolant had gotten into engine gasket and ruined engine. The engine was NOT the one that has this happening. It was a 2.0 engine. BUT my escape was made at the beginning of 2019 model year so 2018 parts were probably used.Ford paid for the new engine but I had to pay installation."

    Premature brake wear

"It may have been in 2022, so more than 12 months, but when I brought it in to the dealer for an oil change at 18000 miles they told me my back brakes were wore out. I told them that I used to always change my own brakes and that I never had to change them before at least 50000 miles, and especially on a new car. They charged me over $500 to change it the back brakes that have squeaked ever since they changed them out. I took it in to have the squeaking checked out, and they said there was nothing wrong and charged me another$40. Needless to say, I will go somewhere else to have my brakes fixed, or do them myself. It was Soo Motors in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan, where we bought the car. The brand new first Escape we bought from them before this one stopped running, and they could not figure out that problem, after it happened twice in less than a year. The first time it happened we only had the car a couple of months. We ended up trading it in for the car we currently own."

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
    Summary:
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.
    What should you do:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

    TIRES
    Mar 10, 2021
Over cured tires may develop a break in the sidewall, resulting in sudden air loss or belt edge separation which could lead to tread/belt loss. Either condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
    Summary:
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 F-150, 2018-2020 F-250, F-350, and 2019 Escape vehicles equipped with Continental tires. On the affected vehicles, it is possible that one or more tires were cured for too long during tire production.
    What should you do:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tires, and replace them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on March 27, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S10.
