    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2020 Ford Expedition owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Torque converter

"The problem started about a month after we bought it, used. If I start the vehicle and immediately put it in reverse, its slips or drops. Sounds terrible. If I put the vehicle in neutral for a few seconds before putting it in reverse, it seems to be better and not happen as often."

Anonymous, CO (2020 Ford Expedition MAX 3.5-L V6 turbo)
    Transmission rebuild or replacement

"The car could not go in reverse. It took about 4 months to get all the parts to rebuild the transmission."

Anonymous, MO (2020 Ford Expedition XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"transmission leaking in first 10k miles ..then completely went at 52,000...then again at 72,000"

Anonymous, NY (2020 Ford Expedition XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"When it was only one or two years old it would occasionally have extremely loud "bangs" and missed shifts when going to pass. On one of these occasions it showed an error message on the dashboard. I Googled it and saw that this is a common issue on Ford 10-speed transmissions. When taken to my Ford dealer, they would say that they couldn't find anything about the problem. Then at about 115,000 miles, it started throwing an error code every time I started saying that there was a transmission/drive system fault that had to be serviced. I was then told by two different Ford service departments that my only option was to replace the transmission. Transmissions won't last forever - I get that - but dying so soon after 100k miles seems relatively short, and particularly when there are so many Ford owner message boards talking about the same issue with this 10-speed, makes me think that this is some kind of known issue."

Anonymous A., MS (2020 Ford Expedition XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Muffler

    "Fiberglass insulation fell out"

Anonymous A., TN (2020 Ford Expedition XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)
    Other/unsure

"Powered running boards - both driver and passenger side - failed. Both had to be replaced, one under warranty and one paid for by owner as warranty had just expired."

Anonymous A., ID (2020 Ford Expedition Platinum 3.5-L V6 turbo)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    A/C compressor

"A/C has gone out on this vehicle twice, once in triple degree heat on a road trip with kids and dog. Ford service centers are abhorrent and damage the car (dented running boards, grease on seats and doors, left tools on/in car). New car was supposed to provide a rental/temp replacement vehicle but wouldn't so we were stranded in triple degree heat with our luggage, kids, dog etc and had to figure out a solution. Ford has been terrible on every level."

Anonymous A., CA (2020 Ford Expedition Platinum 3.5-L V6 turbo)
    Refrigerant leaks

    "These items were all related"

Anonymous A., CA (2020 Ford Expedition Platinum 3.5-L V6 turbo)

    What Owners Say

    Rough shifting

"At times the automatic transmission would shift roughly at lower speeds"

Anonymous, VA (2020 Ford Expedition XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)
    Transmission leaks

"I do all my own oil changes every 6,000 miles . i noticed a transmission leak at about the 2nd oil change . about 10-12k miles . dealer changed seal between transmission & transfer case"

Anonymous, NY (2020 Ford Expedition XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

    Noises And Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

Anonymous, (2020 Ford Expedition Limited 3.5-L V6 turbo)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
