    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Transmission rebuild or replacement

"The problem first appeared in Oct when we were towing we would get an error on the auxiliary transmission pump. The part was changed out in Mesa Ariz. Then we would get strange shifting at highway speeds only when towing after an hour or so and we brought it in to a dealership in Yuma Ariz in January. They tested and then reprogrammed the transmission according to a Ford TSB. Then the problem didn't reappear until March when we were about an hour into a multi day trip towing and the transmission overheated suddenly as well as started shifting very erratically. We brought it in to a dealer in Apache Junction Ariz. and they changed out a transmission cooler control valve after two weeks at the dealership. We tried to continue our trip but several hours in the transmission started running very hot and kept overheating but we had to get back to Canada so we slowed way down and stopped often. After two days of limping along driving at very slow speeds to keep the transmission from overheating we finally had to stop in Idaho Falls ID because the transmission started leaking very bad. The dealer and Ford agreed that it needed a new transmission as well as the dealer found that the right rear axel bolt had broken which there was a safety recall on. After two weeks wait the dealer had replaced the transmission and both axels and we proceeded back on the road and after less then a day on the road the transmission again overheated and started leaking transmission fluid again. We limped home and its now at a dealership in Calgary, Ab waiting for a new transmission cooler and transmission pan gasket seal although no one can tell me why a brand new transmission should be leaking! I will have gone without my truck for over a month while on the road and it has cost me thousands of $$ in extra costs waiting for the truck to be repaired! I think its time for new truck!!"

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
