The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Apple CarPlay

"The F-150 screen would reset every time that I hit a bump (no matter how small). In addition, when car play is active it regularly cycles. This disconnects phone calls or takes them off bluetooth. As my truck is my office the dropped phone calls are a problem. I have taken the truck in and the resetting screen is mostly resolved. The cycling of car play is not."

Anonymous A., UT (2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat Electric)
    Other in-car electronics problem

""My truck was delivered to me. The salesperson took me through most of the basic stuff but I didnt have time (which was I took delivery). It was the next day when I tried to do the ownership activation which seems to be what converts the vehicle from demo to ownership mode. Activating all the infotainment functions, GPS mapping etc. Except it didnt work. Literally followed the activation process and nothing worked. Called my sales rep. She has me try to take it out of transport mode which is what they thought was the issue. Didnt work so she said call ford support. Of course theyre open basic office hours so I couldnt do anything until the next day. I did get a hold of them the following day. They ran me through resetting things and trying different ways to get the system to work. Finally they said a service issue take it to the dealer. I got to the dealer at the end of the day service writers said their only Lightning tech was gone but they tried some things. None of that worked. So they said bring it back in the morning. First they said they were going to try to reset the software from scratch. After 6 hours and it not finishing they offered me a loaner. After that failed they got Ford involved and about 10 days later it turned out that it was some module that needed to be replaced. I literally only drove it 2 days of the first 2 weeks of ownership.""

Anonymous, TX (2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat Electric)

"I had to go to the dealer 4 times for this issue before they replaced the GSM. There was recent CSP from Ford for this issue but it was very frustrating having to go back and forth to the dealer"

    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

    "problems with Apple Carplay"

Anonymous, VA (2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat Electric)

    EV Charging

Won't charge at home; won't work with some public chargers; won't fully charge; charge connection; charge port door.

    What Owners Say

Won't DC (direct-current) fast charge at all

"One day it would not accept power at a DC charging station. I had the vehicle towed to the hotel we were staying at that night and plugged it in on their AC charging station. It charged fine. The next morning I attempted to charge on a different DC charger and it worked perfectly. There hasnt been another issue. So it may have been an issue with the charger and not the vehicle."

Anonymous A., MN (2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat Electric)

    EV Battery

Electric/hybrid battery pack failure, replacement or malfunction, or cooling.

    What Owners Say

Electric/hybrid battery pack malfunction (didn't need replacement)

"Alert on FordPass app read Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power in combination with a dash display that read Service Vehicle Soon. This required two separate trips to the dealership to resolve, with the truck being out of service for two weeks."

Anonymous A., (2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Unsure Electric)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    Exterior lights (other than headlights)

"The taillight module had water ingress and caused intermittent malfunctions. This was found at the dealer on the first try and the taillight was replaced"

Anonymous, (2024 Ford F-150 Lightning XLT Electric)

    Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, four-wheel-drive/all-wheel-drive components, driveline vibration, electrical failure, traction control, electronic stability control.

    What Owners Say

    Other driveline problem

""Actually this one is ongoing. Two weeks ago I went through a carwash and upon leaving I received a service drive train warning. Saying performance may be limited. In the app it was listed as: Power rain malfunction/ reduced power. Illuminates when the system has detected a powertrain or a four-wheel drive fault. What Should I Do? A Powertrain or All Wheel Drive (AWD)/Four Wheel Drive (4WD) fault has been detected, contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible. It was the end of the day already and seemed to be driving OK. So I took it home with the assumption to make a service appointment. The next day it was gone. A week goes by and I happened to drive over a very large and complex railroad crossing. This triggered the same set of warning. With a similar result of it going away after the next restart. Im going on vacation but plan on taking the vehicle for service once I get back.""
