    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Catalytic converter

"The catalytic converter has been replaced twice. Both times the check engine light came on and the vehicle lost all power. It started again after sitting for a while and I was able to drive it to the Ford Dealership."

    Anonymous, CA (2016 Ford F-150 XLT 2.7-L V6 turbo)

"Intermittent engine fault light comes on and off over long period of time. Too expensive for me to replace at this time."

    Anonymous, TX (2016 Ford F-150 Platinum 3.5-L V6 turbo)
    Exhaust manifold

"A known problem on the F150 eco-boost. Not enough bolts to support the weight. It was a $2500 repair."

    Anonymous, AB (2016 Ford F-150 Lariat 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Both exhaust manifolds cracked and had to be replaced."

    Anonymous, AB (2016 Ford F-150 Platinum 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"I noticed a change in the sound of the engine about 12 months before it was diagnosed. Twice the dealer told me that the sound was normal. It turns out there is an exhaust leak that requires the removal and replacement of the exhaust manifold. The truck is presently at the dealer for the necessary repairs."

    Anonymous A., MD (2016 Ford F-150 Lariat 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Ford failed to provide 3 point connection on both rear exhaust ports on 6 cyl 3.5 liter engine ecoboost. Front two exhaust ports on both sides of the block came with 3 point connection. However the engine block was drilled and tapped at the factory for the rear ports. One could assume failure to install the 3rd bolt was planned obsolescence, an attempt to economize, poor quality control or stupidity. This exhaust failure occurred twice Ford under warranty did the first repair with oem part. The manifold was not drilled for 3rd bolt. The 2nd time an independent shop installed aftermarket exhaust manifolds on both sides of the block drilled for 3 point connection on all ports. Cost $3,200.00"

    Anonymous, AZ (2016 Ford F-150 Platinum 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Inadequate manifold design results in broken studs. Ford carried over for years. Causes exhaust leaks that sounds terrible."

    Anonymous, (2016 Ford F-150 Lariat 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"bracket for manifold broke and had to have the whole manifold replaced started about 75000 kms and had to be fixed Expensive to fix 2500"

"Exhaust manifold Gaskets are leaking, need to remove manifolds and fix"

    Anonymous, WI (2016 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"The exhaust manifold leak has been going on for probably 2 years now. Our mechanic told us that this is an issue that many pick up trucks seem to have. He told us that the manifold bolts rust and then eventually break. We haven't had the repair work done yet."

    Anonymous A., NS (2016 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Its a common problem to have an exhaust manifold leak out the back. The design of the Ford OEM manifold breaks on the back side and causes a leak."

    Anonymous, UT (2016 Ford F-150 Lariat 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Faulty design has led to a leaking exhaust manifold on both sides of the engine. Ford is aware of the faulty design and replacement manifolds have been designed with the missing bolt hole being added. However, they will not issue a recall and cover the cost of repair."

    Anonymous, ON (2016 Ford F-150 Lariat 3.5-L V6 turbo)
    Other exhaust system problem

"The problem started 2 years ago. Took it to the Ford dealership for repair. They charged $750 to fix it, but 2 months later, the problem returned. They don't know how to fix it. We are still having the problem but don't want to take it back because the service at the dealership is backed up for 6 weeks and we need our pick up. We have been disappointed in our local Ford dealership service department."

    What Owners Say

    Oil leaks

"Oil pan was leaking significantly. The oil pan is plastic and sealed with adhesive, rather than bolts. It has to be completely replaced. Anonymous A., WA (2016 Ford F-150 XLT 2.7-L V6 turbo)

"Oil pan seal to engine block leaking. Not sure when it started but was a continuous leak. Found it is a common problem with this engine for several model years. Dealer had to replace oil pan and valve covers about two months ago to (hopefully) fix the problem. Cost was close to $2000."

    Anonymous, AL (2016 Ford F-150 Lariat 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"For the 6th time, Ford change the oil pan. It was a bad design, the plastic pan is not a good idea. The remedy was a new design pan with a new gasket and rtv sealant, they also change the valves cover at the same time, new design. In the past 9 months, I had no other leaks."

    Anonymous A., FL (2016 Ford F-150 XLT 2.7-L V6 turbo)
    Other major engine problem

"The intake manifold runner position sensor broke, and as a result the engine ran poorly and had poor gas mileage. The sensor couldn't be replaced - the fix involved replacing the entire upper manifold. The part was on backorder from Ford. We (through our mechanic and their parts distributor) waited on the backorder list for over a year without receiving the part. Our mechanic was finally able to locate an acceptable aftermarket replacement and fixed the issue. The part failure and unavailability of replacement parts are common and known issues which Ford will not acknowledge or rectify."

    What Owners Say

    Air or water leaks

"Every Ford truck or suv Ive owned has always developed a moldy and musty smell after raining or a car wash."

    Anonymous, TX (2016 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0-L V8)

"Sun roof leaks. It's a wet design, so water is supposed to pass thru tubes to ground, but design gets overwhelmed by heavy rain, or if vehicle is parked on a slope. Rivets also leak on metal track that catches water. It's a terrible design, which causes a musty smell in vehicle, and impacts electrical switches around sunroof. I'll never buy a Ford with a sunroof again. I sealed the sun roof with RTV sealant after taking sunroof apart to diagnose the problem. Numerous Youtube videos discuss the issue. Ford should do better."

    Anonymous, WV (2016 Ford F-150 Lariat 3.5-L V6 turbo)

    Anonymous A., VA (2016 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0-L V8)
    Rough shifting

"The problem started slowly. While slightly accelerating from about 40 MPH and above, it sounded like the road was rough. That continued for a month. Then, rather than the rough road sound, the truck would shake violently. I was able to self-diagnose the issue as a problem with the transmission's torque converter. The problem was solved by flushing the transmission fluid."

    Transmission computer

"The transmission computer would cause the transmission not to shift into gear, sometimes it stoplights it would not go to drive and the gear selector indicator on the dash with flash. Replaced the transmission computer at a cost of $2300 and now the transmission shifts hard From 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd and it remains unresolved at this point. The dealer will get it back in three weeks."

    Anonymous, FL (2016 Ford F-150 King Ranch 5.0-L V8)
    Transmission sensor or solenoid

"There is a known "transmission gearshift position sensor" (my words) issue with many Ford F-150 transmissions. Since I purchased the vehicle, about once per year if I shifted into drive the vehicle would not actually shift into drive, instead effectively staying in park. Disconnecting / reconnecting the battery previously fixed the problem. However, last Oct at 95,000 this issue again occurred and I could not fix. Had to tow to dealer and have board/sensor replaced. Process took 3 months and $2000."
