    Gear selector or linkage

"This part wasn't so much an issue at first. Usually it was seventh gear that was the problem. now, and much more noticeable is gears three to four, and four to five, many times missing them and causing hesitation. Causing the trunk to lunge forward, enough to feel it significantly in the neck and body lunging forward."

    Anonymous, ON (2018 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.0-L V8)
Other minor transmission & clutch problem

"Excessive transmission noise requiring replacement of plate in transmission. Ford had issued a technical bulletin on corrective action but no recall"

    Anonymous A., ME (2018 Ford F-150 XL 5.0-L V8)

"on occasion vehicle will gently lurch forward on start up. Vibration in drive line starting about 45mph when transmission shifts into 8th, 9th, 10th gear and continues until about 65 mph. Ford techs solution was to update electronic shift pattern which didn't take care of vibration. Then the solution was engine lugging as transmission shifted into higher gears. New tires and balanced didn't make any difference. Vehicle is out of warranty by date of manufacture and dealership doesn't seem to be concerned. Also had to replace front struts due to one leaking fluid and not operating properly."

    Anonymous, MN (2018 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"it has been in more than once but the continue to say it is the computer learning your driving habits vs trying to fix it"

    Rough shifting

"Since purchased (7 miles) trans shifted HARD around 4th gear. KNOWN issue by Ford, had4 software reprograms of trans, nothing worked. 5yrs went by (39k miles total only) trans out of warranty, dealer replaced valve body on trans at my cost of over $1500. Solved most of issue, but not all. Hit or miss whether you get a reliable Ford. DO NOT recommend, better options out there"

    Anonymous A., IL (2018 Ford F-150 XLT 2.7-L V6 turbo)

"10R80 transmission is plaqued with problems - do not buy any GM or Ford that has this transmission - 10 speed. 2018 emergency engages everytime you park and drags a little every time you move - causing extra wear on rear brakes and rotors..."

    Anonymous, OR (2018 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"10 speed transmission - jerking of transmission at lower speeds from 3 to 4 and 7 to 8; also downshift at same points at a slower speed. Smooth shift if pedal to metal or rapid de-acceleration"

    Anonymous, OH (2018 Ford F-150 XLT 2.7-L V6 turbo)

    Anonymous, AK (2018 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)
Other major transmission & clutch problem

"Getting the fluid changed cost $1100.00. What a pain in the ass design flaw set up by Ford to give their dealerships money."

    Anonymous, MN (2018 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.0-L V8)

"Ever since I purchased my truck it has been in the shop multiple times due to transmission issues. Learning that my truck has the lemon transmission, was unbelievable. Something I had longed for, saved for, went all out with the bells and whistles. I had put in an official complaint with Ford. I drive always with anxiety, feeling at many times the transmission will drop right out of the bottom. I keep hoping/looking for a recall. no such luck. I make sure my roadside assistance is paid up. There is always a clunk sound when starting the truck. Many times when putting it in reverse it really clunks. Going up steep hills the smell that my truck makes, ugh. I have been making a left hand turn a few weeks ago, an opening for me to make my turn, using more push on the gas and the truck hesitated. That was scary. Don't get me wrong. I live the truck. Love driving it. But this issue with the transmission has been a problem since driving the truck off the lot. There is always a ping upon acceleration and a whiny sound."

    Anonymous, ON (2018 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.0-L V8)

"The 10 speed transmission is known for rough shifting. The dealership has reprogrammed the transmission a couple of times with no improvement. They told me that I just have to live with it!"

    Anonymous A., MD (2018 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"10R80 transmission will not down shift correctly - it will cause truck to shudder - 30 MPH in 8th gear - you step on gas harder than needed to cause transmission to downshift to right gear - Ford says remapping computer will fix - Ford Service tried 3 times it will not..."

    Anonymous, OR (2018 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)
    Transmission rebuild or replacement

"Trans would slip, and rough gear changes. I had reported it every time I had Ford service (5-8k miles w/Full Synthetic engine oil) since 2021 (20k through 45k). On my service in Jan 2024 when I reported it, I was notified of a TSB issued Sep 2023 for the problems. When I returned for the appt for resolution of TSB, the dealership then refused the TSB repairs until I stood my ground. The dealership finally repaired/partially rebuilt the transmission. Down time was 23 days."

    Anonymous A., AZ (2018 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

    Anonymous, VA (2018 Ford F-150 Platinum 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"The transmission failed just after the factory warranty. I had an extended warranty, but it took a very long time, three weeks, to get it into the shop. Through this time I had to pay for the rental car out of my own pocket. Once it was in the shop for a period of 10 days the extended warranty did take care of the rental car. So far, I have experienced any other troubles. It was about $1200 out-of-pocket though."

    Anonymous A., NC (2018 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Transmission would not downshift when stopping. It happened 15-20 times before it showed a maintenance needed light. Required a total transmission replacement."

    Anonymous, VA (2018 Ford F-150 Lariat 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Experienced rough shifting and slippage for approx 10,000 miles before taken into the dealership. A complete rebuild of the transmission rectified the problem for approx 30,000 miles. Problem has reoccurred but to a lesser degree, and since its out of warranty, I will just deal with it until it becomes absolutely necessary to repair"

    Anonymous, AR (2018 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Weve had to have the cam phaser replaced twice. Once under warranty. The second was out of pocket. The cam phaser adjusts the position from the camshaft to the crankshaft. If left unfixed, it could lead to more expensive fixes. They did have a recall on it, but the recall expired in January of 2023."

    Anonymous, OR (2018 Ford F-150 XL 3.3-L V6)

"The cam phaser timing was going out of time & I just missed the Ford "appreciation repair". The timing needed to be fixed, around $2500. Very common with Ford 3.5 Ecoboost, but Ford would not help at all when right outside the notification & Vancouver, WA Ford even had "checked" the engine while within the time limit but claiming they didn't note any noise. The timing doesn't just go out, it's a slow progression & they know this but will not provide any discount nor support. Completely stonewalling any responsibility for poor design & any willingness to help a repeat F150 customer. I would definitely reconsider on the next purchase."

"The truck suddenly started making noise and driving rough and loud. I took it to Ford with an extended warranty from another company. Ford, nor the warranty company would honor my warranty, saying that the issue was a publication, not a recall. But if I had had a Ford Warranty they would have fixed it free. They had my vehicle for a month until the part came in towards the end of Covid. Numerous F150's had this issue and had to wait for the part to be delivered. It should have been a RECALL. Both Ford and my warranty company said to keep an eye out for the issue to be a Recall, then I could get reimbursed."
