    Clutch replacement

"Between 3-4 was occasionally shifting hard. Wasnt shifting into 10th gear on highway. STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION!"

    Anonymous A., CT (2018 Ford F-150 Lariat 3.5-L V6 turbo)
    Torque converter

"it started 4 months ago and when I took it in that is how it was diagnosed. I could continue to drive it but had it replaced to avoid problems."

    Transmission rebuild or replacement

""Started in Octobe 2024 happened daily when tyranny was cold. Paid FORD $6,400.00 to repair the tyranny. Resolved in December 2024.""

"Known problem with ten speed transmission. Defect destroys transmission requiring complete rebuild"

    Anonymous, AL (2018 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0-L V8)

"The truck was shifting rough - downshift several gears at a time and wouldnt upshift correctly. The end result was a transmission rebuild by Ford. Ford covered 60% of the cost. This is a known issue with the 10 speed transmission."

Anonymous, ON (2018 Ford F-150 King Ranch 3.0-L V6 diesel)

""after I bought the vehicle, I drove it to Michigan and back. Super quiet interior, similar to a luxury vehicle. When I got back home over 1600 miles later, I put the Truck in reverse and a big wrench appeared on the screen stating there was nothing I could do but call a local ford dealer to fix the transmission. The vehicle could not go forward or reverse. I was stuck. I had a tow truck take it to the dealer. They said the physical transmission in this 10 speed system was not bad, it was a big logic board that interfaces with the transmission that went bad. I did not quibble, They replaced the defective boards, new trans fluid and filter. Now it runs like a new one again. The 10 speed transmission really gets incredible fuel mileage out of this 5.0 Coyote V8. I get around 20 MPG or better depending on how many highway miles I am driving. The F-150 is called an FX 4x4. has vinyl floor and basic cloth seats, but it is very well appointed for a base unit vehicle. Transmission after repair does not clunk or make weird noises. The V8 has a tappet lifter sound, when you are outside the vehicle. This is normal for a 5.0. Inside the vehicle you can barely hear the engine running. great soundproofing for a basic vehicle. Ford put a lot of good stuff in the vehicle. I like it a lot.""

""Started to hard shift from 1-3 then would loose gear and be in no gear. Ford is aware but wont admit fault. They dont fix you must replace which I did at a cost of $8,200!""

    Anonymous, AR (2018 Ford F-150 Lariat 2.7-L V6 turbo)

""The transmission began shifting oddly. Subtle at first but progressed and became more frequent and more intense as time went. The dealership determined the 10 speed transmission needed to be completely rebuilt. We were fortunate to have an extended warranty, as the repair was more than $7,000.""

    Anonymous A., UT (2018 Ford F-150 Lariat 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Problem started 3 years ago and slowly got worse. between 1-5 gears truck transmission would "slip" into a higher gear on hills. Dealer tried computer adjustment and had me drive it for another 5000 miles. problem continued so Ford honored my extended warranty and replaced/rebuilt my transmission."

    Anonymous, UT (2018 Ford F-150 Platinum 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Ford dealer said rough shifting is normal. Contacted ford corporate who initiated the lemon law buy back. After months in the shop they called the day after I started the lemon law buy back program to tell me they finally found the parts. Then they added a 36000 mile number to bumper warranty on the pickup so I held on to it. It still has intermittent rough shifting."

Anonymous, NC (2018 Ford F-150 King Ranch Unsure)

"The vehicle would not drive and had it taken to the dealership because the warranty had just run out three weeks before issue. Contacted Ford and they agreed to cover half of the cost and I agreed to that. I told them that this was very strange since it occurred so close tothw warranty running out. It took them a week to complete the work and they gave me a limited warranty on the new one."

    Anonymous, MD (2018 Ford F-150 XL 3.3-L V6)

"Tried replacing throttle body made it undrivable and had to reach out to ford company directly. Dealer had certified used designation but transmission failed within two days. Local dealer tried a fix but failed and did not have mechanic capable of repair ( due to bring a smaller dealer) Ford helped find a qualified repair dealer transport to dealer and they rebuilt as unable to get new transmission from any stocked parts. Rebuilt transmission has worked great. Pleased with help and concern from national ford customer service. Long time f150 driver"

    What Owners Say

""Kept throwing a code for inefficient converter, even after the dealer checked it over and reset the cel. The cel came on again and the dealer agreed to order another converter. After 2 months of waiting, I had to contact Ford customer service before the dealer would replace the converter that they had in stock. "the failure and replacement of phasers on this maked/model/enging are a common, known issue. One time it was covered by warranty; the 2nd time the cost was on me. Like 4 grand or something. Anonymous, NV (2018 Ford F-150 King Ranch 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Oklahoma Ford dealership identified problem as worn cam phasers, a $4000 repair. Florida Ford dealership reduced trade-in value by $4000 because of the problem. Ford corporate knows about the design defect, but has never issued a recall. They have improved design in newer models. I have been working around the problem by keeping RPMs above 3000 and shifting manually while towing. Unhitched, operation is normal. Ford should fix this well known problem at no cost to the loyal consumers."

    Anonymous A., FL (2018 Ford F-150 Platinum 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"After we recently purchased the vehicle, we started hearing a strange noise when starting the truck. I looked up the issue on the internet and it was a cam phaser rattle. It was covered under the warranty that we got with the vehicle. It took about 12-14 hours in labor to fix the problem plus parts. It is my understanding that as long as the noise does not continue to get worse, you could continue driving with it, but since it was covered under warranty we got it fixed."

""Currently in the garage to have one half of the turbo replaced. It had been failing and we had an appointment to replace the catalytic converter (my husband's vehicle, so the details might be wrong). The vehicle had thrown an error while towing an empty trailer, so he had it looked at. After that appointment, the catalytic converter appointment was set up. Five days prior to that appointment, the truck was driving at highway speeds and lost power, and was belching black exhaust. It recovered enough to continue the drive, plus another round trip to work (50 miles total). At that point, it thoroughly lost power and was burning oil badly. Had the truck towed to the garage where the appointment was on Monday. They diagnosed it as a bad turbo. Waiting on a part for the repair.""

"At about 128000 kilometres I started hearing excessive road/mechanical noise in the front end but I couldnt discern which side was louder. I brought it up to the service agent at the dealership but when I got it back they stated that the mechanics had heard nothing and no problems were identified. The sound worsened and when I brought it back for its regular maintenance it was then reported that my driver side front bearings were broken and needed replacing and I would also require an alignment after that was replaced. That seemed to make a significant improvement but only for a couple of weeks while I was on a trip but when I brought the truck back for its regular maintenance I was told that there were no problems identified or loud noises heard so I continued driving the vehicle until its next regular maintenance and once again informed the dealership that the noise was worse and once they checked it I was told that the truck was not safe to drive off the premises and that the right front bearings were nonfunctional and the front tires were unevenly worn and needed immediate replacement. I had them do the bearing and front end repairs but went to another retailer to buy new tires (all four) as well as an alignment. Ford or the dealership have not compensated me for the increased damage caused by not identifying the bearing issue nor have they compensated me for the damage caused to the tires that needed to be replaced because of the delay in diagnosis and repair. I wont even get into the unnecessary exposure to the dangerous situation this issue exposed me and my passengers to especially because most of my travels had been highway driving over long distances."

    What Owners Say

    Differential

"I noticed a noise in the right front at low speeds that seemed to be at wheel speed, but didn't sound like a bearing to me. I took it in, but they couldn't hear the noise! Approximate 12 months/12000 km later it was getting noisier, and this time the dealer determined it was coming from a front differential bearing. Upon pulling it all apart, one of the front differential carrier bearings was actually turning in the housing, not actually a bearing failure."

Simultaneously the 4X4 warning light appeared on the dash. Also, I heard scraping noise in the front brakes like a stone was lodged in the rotor. The insurance inspection ruled that there was no evidence of a stone strike and the damage to the 4X4 system was failure of a transfer case module which triggered a fuse to blow. It cost approximately $1300 to repair covered mostly by my extended warranty that I purchased. I still believe that a stone strike caused the whole problem.""
