    Transmission Minor

Gear selector and linkage, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Rough shifting

"Transmission computer replaced. Problem fixed but reacured."

    Anonymous, AB (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 2.7-L V6 turbo)

"Rough shifting at low speeds in stop go traffic between 3,4,and 5 gear. Ford pulled transmission and replaced torque converter and other parts per a Ford TSB under waranty."

    Anonymous, CA (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 2.7-L V6 turbo)

    "very hard downshifts at times"

    Anonymous, NY (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0-L V8)

"The 10 speed Auto start stop transmission is very clunky. I will take it to Ford for service."

    Anonymous, ON (2019 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.0-L V8)

"When its cold shifting into and out of 4th gear it shifts hard"

    Anonymous, (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 2.7-L V6 turbo)

    "erratic shifting..and forward to reverse.."

    Anonymous, MA (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0-L V8)

"It started soon after purchasing the truck, When cold, the transmission will not engage in reverse, it is like backing up with wheel chucks against your tires. Ford dealer says it is just something you have to live with, dealer has a lot full of trucks with the same problem. If you push the throttle, the transmission will suddenly engage with a major slam, jerk and reverse acceleration. If not prepared to brake, you may hit something behind you. Ford refuses to acknowledge the problem with the 10 speed transmission. I also experienced severe jerky transmission shifting especially with a trailer. To the point I did not want to drive the truck. Ford reprogrammed the transmission and the shifting significantly improved. Ford has reprogrammed my truck 3 times. This is a serious problem, experienced by many Ford owners of the 10 speed transmission. They refuse to address it. A Class action lawsuit has been launched. Ford has been horrible in addressing this problem with the public. I will not buy a Ford Truck, (I've excuslivelly owned Ford Trucks since 1990) until they acknowlege and say what they did to fix it, I will not buy another. I'm extremely disatsfied with Ford. Not to mention I had 3 ignition coils fail this year on a hunting trip from Minnesota to Texas."

    Anonymous A., MN (2019 Ford F-150 Lariat 2.7-L V6 turbo)

"Problem with clunky shifting began around 70,000 km. Ford repaired it, which worked for some time, but the clunking returned. I will just live with it now that I'm off-warranty."

    Anonymous A., AB (2019 Ford F-150 Lariat 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"The truck slams and jerks through the gears. At slow speeds it sometimes takes 1-2 seconds to shift and when it does, the engine revs and the truck bogs out. Rapid acceleration at highway speeds causes the transmission to slam into gear, shaking the whole truck."

    Anonymous A., WA (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"While I was driving down the road or highway, the transmission was 70 shift from 10 to 7 or eight and when driving from a stop after it would shift from 1st to 3rd or fourth or fifth and he would feel it jump from the lower to the higher gears and vice versa. It took three or four months before Ford came up with a bulletin and how to fix it for the dealership so that it could be fixed"

    Anonymous A., WA (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"Started about 40000 miles and got progressively worse."

    Anonymous, IL (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)
    Slipping transmission

    "gears had to be replaced"

    Anonymous, TX (2019 Ford F-150 Lariat 3.5-L V6 turbo)
    Transmission computer

"Rough shifting shortly after purchase. Transmittion computer replaced fixing problem. Rough shifting reappeared in 2024"

    Anonymous, AB (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 2.7-L V6 turbo)

    "erratic behavior.."

    Anonymous, MA (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0-L V8)

"I was told the computer needed reset. I've had that done when I first got the truck NEW, then again, paying each time."

    Anonymous, IN (2019 Ford F-150 XL 2.7-L V6 turbo)

"Transmission started shifting poorly. Reprogrammed. My issue is how long will Ford support this transmission computer."

    Anonymous, CO (2019 Ford F-150 Lariat 3.5-L V6 turbo)
    Transmission leaks

"It was a seal in the rear differential. I pull a 6,000 lb travel trailer. At the time of purchase, I also purchased an extended warranty, which covered this leak."

    Anonymous A., VA (2019 Ford F-150 Lariat 3.5-L V6 turbo)
    Transmission sensor or solenoid

"It all the same problem with the rebuilding of transmission"

    Anonymous A., IL (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 2.7-L V6 turbo)

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Clutch replacement

"i noticed issues with transmission since 2020. Brought to Ford dealer 6 times with complaint of transmission jerking, slipping and shifting very hard, each time was told nothing wrong with it, "that's just the 10 speed transmission". at 97,000 miles, brought in for oil change and trans guy says that either my CDF clutch needs to be replaced or I need a new transmission. Ended up needing new CDF clutch, but had to tear down transmission to get to it. I complained to trans guy, service manager and store manager, all said "we couldn't find anything until now, so not under warranty. $3800 later, I will never buy a vehicle with this 10 speed trans, probably will not buy another Ford as they have known for years that there is a problem with this transmission."

    Anonymous, MS (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)
Other major transmission & clutch problem

"I thought it was another transmission problem, but no, it was ignition coil failures, not 1, not 2 but 3 all happening on one trip. It cost me 2 days of a hunting trip waiting for my truck to get fixed. I would like to have the Ford CEO drive my truck and see if he believes it is an acceptable truck to be on the road. With the 10 speed transmission problems and ignition coil Failures, this truck is not "FORD TOUGH""

    Anonymous A., MN (2019 Ford F-150 Lariat 2.7-L V6 turbo)
    Torque converter

"Not sure the truck went back for the same issue 4 time each time they replaced other parts to try to fix the shutter problem"

    Anonymous, FL (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)
    Transmission rebuild or replacement

"The 10 speed automatic in the 2019 F150 started having hard downshifts by about 10,000 miles. It was very annoying. Ford did a rebuild. Much better, but now about 5000 miles later, its again downshifting hard between 5th and 4th gears. Still much better than pre-rebuild, but annoying nonetheless. Kudo's to the dealership for doing the rebuild without any hassle."

    Anonymous A., CT (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Transmission was rebuilt, and I continue to have to take it back in for shifting problems or a number of months until Ford manufacturing came out with a bulletin telling the dealer how to fix the problem"

    Anonymous A., WA (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"The 10 speed 10R80 automatic transmission is JUNK, love the truck in every other way but Ford dropped the ball on this one. Widespread issue and mine just happened to fail right after 60k when the powertrain warranty ended."

    Anonymous, FL (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 2.7-L V6 turbo)

"Transmission would shift from 8th to4th when decelerating. Then would not go from a standing stop unless rev to about 2500 rpms . Got so bad it had to be towed in to service department . Took 2 1/2 months to resolve"

    Anonymous A., IL (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 2.7-L V6 turbo)

"Right at the end of the powertrain warranty, I began having some rough shifting. Then just above 60,000 miles it got to where it couldn't find a gear and would jump from 1st to 8th and back to 1st and almost got be killed trying to turn onto a busy street. Ended up having a bad clutch, but new transmission cost almost as much as a rebuild and without the warranty. FORD would not help at all with the costs of the repair."

    Anonymous, AL (2019 Ford F-150 Platinum 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Grew progressively worse. Started with a few hard shifts. Then, got lost finding the right gear and would stall out. Finally, beyond safely driving it. Ended up dropping in a new tranie at +$8,000."

    Anonymous A., FL (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0-L V8)

"Transmission started shifting rough between 7th and 8th gear. Dealer tried several things to solve the problem. Nothing seemed to work. They then found metal shavings in the transmission fluid. The only option was to replace the transmission."

    Anonymous, IL (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Ford has a problem with the 10th gear as it is failing on this model. The customer is left holding the bag and paying for their design failure, whichn is wrong. This problem presents a safety problem for those in the truck when the 10th gear fails."

    Anonymous, IN (2019 Ford F-150 XL 2.7-L V6 turbo)

"Complete transmission failure. Im under the impression that this is involved in a class action was."

    Anonymous, NH (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0-L V8)

    "excessive oil consumption"

    Anonymous A., PA (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0-L V8)

"Started getting flashing check engine light and engine ran rough. Problem would come and go. Error codes indicated different possible issues. Eventually the mechanic said the right side of the engine was somehow being starved for oil when it was hot, and they could hear bearing knocking."

    Anonymous A., OH (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0-L V8)
    Other major engine problem

"The Ford F150 is notorious for oil consumption. The dealership has been working on my vehicle for about a year and it still uses 1/4-1/2 quart every 1.000 miles. Unacceptable"

    Anonymous, PA (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0-L V8)

"Ford engineers dropped the ball on this one. The Damn engine was consuming excessive amounts of engine oil and the motor had to be replaced at roughly 32,000 miles"

    Anonymous A., NY (2019 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.0-L V8)

"On a 3.5L V6 Ecoboost engine. The cam phasers developed a cold start rattle at 69,500 miles. This is the beginning of a timing issue that can lead to very serious engine problems or failure if not repaired quickly. This is a problem with 2018 through 2020 model years with the Ecoboost engines. Ford had covered replacement of the cam phasers up until January 2023 or 60,000 miles. Since my vehicle was past these it was not covered by ford or any engine warranty. The cost of the repair was $4,200 which is mainly labor. The repair took about 2 to 3 days to complete. The repair is now covered by an additional 2 year warranty and seems to have completely resolved the issues."

    Anonymous, MA (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Cam phasers, a known problem with the Ecoboost engine had to be replaced. Same problem I had with a 2010 Ford Triton engine. Ford apparently has not fixed their problem yet. Dealer wanted $4900 to fix. Complained to Ford and got help with repair cost. Finally cost $1100 to repair at 78,000 miles. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM SPOT. All of the Ecoboost engines from certain years seem to be affected"

    Anonymous A., NC (2019 Ford F-150 Platinum 3.5-L V6 turbo)

"Cam phaser. Known issue in coyote engines"

    Anonymous, GA (2019 Ford F-150 XL 5.0-L V8)

"The cam phasers first failed at 73k miles. The replacement set has started to fail at 120k miles. Causes cold start rattle. If not fixed it can cause engine damage. 2-3k to repair it."

    Anonymous A., WA (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5-L V6 turbo)
    Timing belt or chain

"at about 56,000 miles, engine started clattering under load - at first they said it was the variable cam solenoid, which they replaced. But that did not stop the issue. Instead they took it back in and replaced the timing chains and tensioners...which seem to have stopped the problem."

    Turbo or supercharger

    Over-the-air software update failed

"Battery was disconnected when they rebuilt the timing change. Since then, I've had multiple issues with entertainment system. Most annoying is the over the air software updates messaging. Every time I start the car, it askes if I want auto updates. Whether I select yes or ask me later, I always get the message next time. I've done a complete system reset as recommended by Ford and it did not resolve it."

    Anonymous, ON (2019 Ford F-150 XLT 2.7-L V6 turbo)

"Went through 2 catalytic c9nverters in past year. Gas mileage is down after latest converter used to get 26 mpg and same driving conditions get 19 if lucky. Ford took forever to get both that on the 2 d time I had to involve Ford Corporate. No explanation as to why the truck is eating these, I drive maybe 25 miles a day to work and we do some road trips a few hlurs from home at most. This isn't a work truck, it is more a mall crawler."

    Anonymous, MI (2019 Ford F-150 XL 3.3-L V6)

"PCM went bad and resulted in three alternators being installed after original alternator failure. Original alternator failed while on a trip over 800 miles from home. The error was 'Check Charging System Now' and the shop determined that the alternator was bad and replaced it with a rebuilt. 4 months later the same error message resulted in measuring the alternator output, which was producing voltages ranging from 13.2 - 14.9 volts, replaced with rebuilt also had the same error with consistent output range of 14.8 - 15.1 Volts. Fourth alternator was a new Motorcraft but it also produced 14.8-14.9 volts. Being an electrical Engineer with over 20 years of power control experience, I suspected that the actual culprit was the PCM and got the truck into a Ford dealership. Main issue was that since the PCM rarely was defective, it was not considered the issue until I argued that something was causing two different alternators to produce max output voltages. I will mention that humans are always doing things that make life easier while destroying the life we have, which is why we have electronic controls on vehicles that should not have them. Climate issues may be enhanced by humans but since we use temperatures from 1850 as the starting point, we fool ourselves into believing that temperatures are rising faster than ever for political and power reasons, not science. 1850 was the official end of the little ice age that is never mentioned by anyone pushing the 'Climate Change' agenda. Wake up CR!!!"
