CR's Take
Not to be confused with Ford's smaller Transit Connect, the Transit replaced Ford's E-Series full-size van. In just about every area that commercial van buyers find important, the Transit is an upgrade. There are two wheelbases, three roof heights and with three different body lengths. Seating capacity ranges from 8 to 15 passengers. Three engine choices are offered, all of which promise to greatly improve fuel efficiency. The base engine is a 275 hp, 3.7-liter V6. For more power, a 310 hp, turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 is available. The third engine is a 185 hp, 3.2-liter diesel-powered five-cylinder. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard. Besides the standard safety features found on all passenger cars, rear parking sensors, and lane keeping warning are optional.
