    First Take
The Acadia is one of three new, large, car-based SUVs from General Motors that have three rows of seats and can seat seven or eight passengers. It uses a 3.6-liter, V6 engine that produces 275 hp. Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, they combine to make a smooth and refined powertrain, but the transmission is reluctant to downshift. GM says it is working on a fix for that. It is available with front- or all-wheel drive. The Buick Enclave and Saturn Outlook are essentially the same. The ride is comfortable, the handling is responsive, and the interior is quiet. The third-row seats are roomy enough to accommodate two adults when the second row is moved forward.
