""Thermostat sensor stopped working intermittently. So the dash gauge showed zero temp. But no dash warning light came on, and no failure codes were found by auto store testers. During this time the Air conditioner and heat would not work. Then the gauge worked for a few days. Then on an out of town (200 mile)trip it failed again and I got a check engine light. An auto store told me it was a sensor failure and it was "probably safe to drive".That's a roll of the dice...hoping my engine didn;t over heat in 90 degree Florida weather. I drove home and I took the truck to my mechanic the next day. He replaced the temp sensor which is located under the intake manifold for $800.00 and fixed the problem. I used to be able to replace a temperature sensor in my driveway for about $20.00 in about 20 minutes. Not happy about $800 for a stinking sensor..""
