Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2004 Honda Accord owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

/ 5

What Owners Say

A/C compressor

"Simple compressor replacement, but had to take it back a second time. Still does not blow cold air. Slightly cool only."

Anonymous A., GA (2004 Honda Accord EX 3.0-L V6)

"Had to replace twice"

Anonymous A., AZ (2004 Honda Accord LX 3.0-L V6)

"AC compressor failed with about 215000 miles on the Honda"

Anonymous, MD (2004 Honda Accord EX 3.0-L V6)

"Compressor and evaporator failed. Told it would cost $2000+ to fix. I declined and had them make the compressor pully an idler and I continue to drive it w/out A/C."

Anonymous, VA (2004 Honda Accord EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Compressor stopped working"

Anonymous, CA (2004 Honda Accord EX 3.0-L V6)

Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.

/ 5

What Owners Say

Oil leaks

"Not really a leak, but in the summer it consumes more oil."

Anonymous, TX (2004 Honda Accord EX 3.0-L V6)

"Two oil leaks. Oil pan gasket had to replaced. Small gasket had to be replaced too."

Anonymous, OH (2004 Honda Accord LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Over several years and many miles, the engine had developed minor/moderate oil leaks. Earlier this year, one or more gaskets/seals finally gave out and the engine started leaking major amounts of oil. The repair shop replaced the following gaskets and seals: - Valve cover gasket - Valve cover seal washers - Camshaft O-ring seal - Intake plenum gaskets (2) - VVTI Oil control valve gasket This resolved the majority of the engine oil leaks. The steering rack assembly still weeps a bit of fluid, but that's a different age-related issue."

Anonymous, CA (2004 Honda Accord EX 3.0-L V6)

Suspension/Steering

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

/ 5

What Owners Say

Shocks or struts

"All four struts were replaced."

Anonymous, OH (2004 Honda Accord LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"After 19 years and about 180,000 miles all four shock absorber/struts needed replacing. One was bottoming out. Replacing them raised the car a couple of inches, ended nose-diving on hard braking, and provided better stability on curves. The good part is that this repair could be planned in advance, rather than being stranded somewhere far from home."

Anonymous, WI (2004 Honda Accord EX 3.0-L V6)
Springs or torsion bars

"They were worn and needed to be replaced."

Anonymous, IL (2004 Honda Accord LX 3.0-L V6)

Noises/Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

/ 5

What Owners Say

Air or water leaks

"The car developed water leaks into the front passenger area and in the trunk about 5 years ago. They don't occur immediately, so clearly the water is collecting somewhere and then eventually makes its way inside the car. We keep it in the garage or under an exterior covered area during snow/rain season. We've had multiple dealers in the area attempt to find and fix the leaks, but, to no avail. It is such a great ride and starts immediately every time, we keep it "on hand". Probably shouldn't but it is a great "back up" car."

Anonymous, WA (2004 Honda Accord LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
Seals and/or weather-stripping

"Seals on doors shifting so water enters if seals not seated correctly."

Anonymous, NJ (2004 Honda Accord LX 3.0-L V6)
Squeaks or rattles

"Motor mount needed replacing"

Anonymous, NJ (2004 Honda Accord LX 3.0-L V6)

Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

/ 5

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
