    First Take
Although pricey in its higher trim lines, the Civic is one of the best small cars on the market. The four-door LX sedan glides surefootedly through twists and turns, and it rides relatively well. The interior is roomy and well laid out, as is the trunk. The sedan's 106-hp Four and optional automatic transmission provide smooth acceleration. The EX coupe delivers a supple ride, and its 127-hp Four provides very good fuel economy, but its lower torque makes it feel less responsive. The 160-hp Si Coupe addresses that, but it doesn't offer antilock brakes.
