    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    A/C compressor

"Just after the warranty expired the compressor failed. Had to argue with the dealer about replacing it as mileage was less than 36k."

Anonymous, NY (2016 Honda Civic LX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Part of system was replaced under extended warrantee, shortly afterward the compressor failed, which wasnt covered under warrantee."

Anonymous, NV (2016 Honda Civic EX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"failed 2 years ago; wasted a lot of money refilling refrigerant; Honda finally replaced compressor for free last year under a recall."

    Anonymous A., MA (2016 Honda Civic EX-T 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Recall was sent to me. I didnt pursue further due to the negative response I received with the leak. See previous comment on it."

    Anonymous A., CA (2016 Honda Civic 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Lost charge. Dealers tech. Initially diagnosed problem as being caused by a defect that was under recall. But then said it was a mistake & I had to pay $400. for the repair."

Anonymous A., NY (2016 Honda Civic EX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Compressor was replaced, still had a problem which turned out to be a $20 in-line valve that was leaking"

Anonymous, MA (2016 Honda Civic EX-T 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Had to be replaced. A/C stopped working altogether"

Anonymous, OH (2016 Honda Civic LX Unsure)

"Blowing hot air, replaced condenser for the second time"

    Anonymous A., FL (2016 Honda Civic EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"It stopped working and the dealer would not replace it even though there was a recall notice for this breaking down. It said that dealers could replace it, but my dealer did not"

Anonymous A., CA (2016 Honda Civic LX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Condenser

    "Had to be replaced"

Anonymous A., IL (2016 Honda Civic Touring 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"1st the compressor failed and had to be replaced. Later on the he condenser failed and had to be replaced. Very frustrating"

Anonymous, NY (2016 Honda Civic LX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Evaporator

"Leaks in evaporator core-needed to be replaced"

Anonymous, CA (2016 Honda Civic EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"It leaked and had to be replaced."

Anonymous A., CA (2016 Honda Civic 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"It has been repaired twice under warranty and has failed yet again"

Anonymous, ON (2016 Honda Civic LX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Problem is still pending. Once fixed, died in 4 months. They said I needed new everything. I have a non-functioning AC."

Anonymous, CA (2016 Honda Civic EX-L Unsure)
    Other climate system problem

"The climate system was not cooling. As I live in the PNW, it does not get hot enough to use that often. In 2021, it stopped cooling sufficiently. Took it in and the dealer thought the issue was fixed. Summer of 2022 rolled around and the AC was having the same issue. Turns out, it was a common problem and Honda had a recall to replaced the condenser seal. The AC has been working perfectly since that replacement"

Anonymous, (2016 Honda Civic EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Refrigerant leaks

"Again, Honda fixed and it leaked again in less than 4 months and would cost $2000 to fix as it is not under the insurancce."

Anonymous, CA (2016 Honda Civic EX-L Unsure)

"I have had the car in for refrigeration leaks 3-4 times since I have owned the car. Two times in the last 12 months. $3000-$4000 in repair bills. I filed a complaint with Honda and they wouldnt back their product. Because of these issues and Hondas lack of responsibility and ownership to a known problem with this class of vehicles, I am done buying Hondas."

Anonymous, MN (2016 Honda Civic Touring 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Summer 2023 experienced refrigerant leak so paid for it. A month or so later I re river recall notice and cool air no longer worked. Because it was salvage title, they wouldnt cover the cost. When I called to ask the dealer how much I needed to pay for it to be fixed they said over $3000 but the couldnt fix it for a year because they had to fix the recalls that were covered first. They wouldnt let me schedule an appointment for repair"

    Anonymous A., CA (2016 Honda Civic 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    Exterior lights (other than headlights)

"the third brake light that is attached to the rear window, partially fell"

Anonymous A., CA (2016 Honda Civic EX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Keyless entry

"Keyless entry failed (battery in remote was fine), and mechanical key system also failed at same time, rendering vehicle inaccessible. After repeated attempts to enter vehicle over maybe 20 minutes (on a cold winter day well below freezing), the car alarm went off, and for some reason the remote then started working. Hasnt happened again. Dealer couldnt find anything wrong."

    Anonymous A., NB (2016 Honda Civic EX-T 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Other electrical system problem

"The car would stall when coming to a stop. Turn off the ignition and turn it on: it restarted. It took several trips to the dealer to find the source of the problem, which was very subtle. Finally a sensor code gave a reading leading to a solution. The dealer was VERY good in addressing this issue, which was perplexing to them.."

Anonymous, MA (2016 Honda Civic EX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"At regular intervals I get terrible beeps over the sound system. The GPS screen with map are not available."

Anonymous A., IL (2016 Honda Civic Touring 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Tire pressure monitor

"Extremely unreliable and faulty. I dont trust it at all. TPS is constantly on when there are no tire problems. Ive had the sensors fixed/replaced and the problem persists."

Anonymous, PA (2016 Honda Civic 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Apple CarPlay

"Have had issues pairing with phone and ensuring it connects every time"

Anonymous, OH (2016 Honda Civic LX Unsure)

"Apple CarPlay relies on a cord, which is ridiculous. Sometimes it works, often it doesnt."

Anonymous, PA (2016 Honda Civic 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Frequently I connect my phone with the USB cable and it does not connect. I disconnect it, and reconnect it. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesnt. I have also turned the car off and start it up again to correct the problem. It has done this since I bought the car. The dealer attempted to fix it by updating the software, but soon it was doing the same thing again. I did not take it back to the dealer, I just deal with it."

Anonymous, AL (2016 Honda Civic EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Display screen goes blank

"This car is a nightmare, electronically! The screen was going blank, and then I had it repaired. However itll still go blank from time to time and then fix itself, either as the car warms up, or as I have turned off the engine and then re-start it as Im off and running again. Also, sometimes the radio wont come on, and then within a minute or so itll fix itself(reset, etc.). Again this is annoying, and just re-solidifies why I dislike too many electrical components."

Anonymous A., CA (2016 Honda Civic EX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"display beeps for 10 fifteen seconds in the winter and then stops; no messages on display or dashboard."

    Anonymous A., MA (2016 Honda Civic EX-T 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    What Owners Say

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"The paint is chalky & bubbly on the hood, roof and side rails. It does not look good. Ive had many used vehicles (usually Toyota) this one has weathered the worse."

Anonymous, MA (2016 Honda Civic EX-T 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The paint on my bumper is severely cracking and spider webbing. It is peeling off the body around the rear window."

Anonymous A., FL (2016 Honda Civic LX)
    Rust

"Very minor rust spot on door, no obvious cause, not from a nick or scratch."

    Anonymous A., NB (2016 Honda Civic EX-T 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Other/unsure

    "Trunk rod broke"

Anonymous, PA (2016 Honda Civic LX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Third brake light cover partially detached causing glare on rear window. The problem started a few days after o purchased it. Apparently this is a common issue with the coupe. I resolved the issue by using Velcro tape to hold it up."

Anonymous, CA (2016 Honda Civic LX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"The Honda's alternator went out. We caught it early enough so there was no downtime on he car other than repairs. It was about $1,000 to fix which seems really high for an alternator."

Anonymous, NC (2016 Honda Civic EX-L)

    Steering And Suspension

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    What Owners Say

"First time replaced under warranty. Then replaced again out of pocket. Was informed it needs to be repaired for $1,200."

Anonymous, SC (2016 Honda Civic LX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"This feature is designed to keep a driver from wandering out of the highway lane being used. It does this by applying a front wheel brake on the tire that is straying. This can lead to an unexpected fight with the steering wheel to correct the car's direction. The feature can be disabled if the driver uses the turn signal when changing lanes."
