    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    A/C compressor

"A/C unit has failed twice on this vehicle"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Civic EX-T 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"AC stopped blowing cold air. The "entire AC" was replaced and it was covered on an extended warranty that was purchased at the time of car purchase. Honda later issued a recall on this car for "AC Compressor Shaft Seal Leak." Same issue? Don't know."

Anonymous, AR (2017 Honda Civic EX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Problem resolved Aug 17 2023 by replacing Compressor shaft seal. Ac not blowing cold air again on May 27, 2024. Booked appointment with dealer. Expect problem to be fixed under warranty again as this will be third time since 2020. Dealer told me last year that warranty for this problem has been extended to 10 years."

Anonymous A., ON (2017 Honda Civic Touring 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Compressor failed but was replaced under an expanded recall"

Anonymous, MA (2017 Honda Civic EX-T 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Air conditioner would not maintain cold air, apparently there was a leak in compressor. Honda gave an extended warranty."

Anonymous, SK (2017 Honda Civic Touring 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"In September 2022 the air conditioning was operating at around 20% of its capacity. In spring 2023, we had the compressor changed."

Anonymous, QC (2017 Honda Civic LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Faulty compressor seals caused refrigerant leaks."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Honda Civic LX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Automatic climate control

    "AC not working"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Civic EX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Condenser

"Condenser went out in my car. Replaced at the dealer under warranty - Honda recall."

Anonymous A., MO (2017 Honda Civic Si 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Known issue! Watch out! Honda dealership replaced my condenser 5x, no charge. Leaked every time within a few months. Then it got way more expensive. The failed condenser caused my compressor to fail and heat pipe to leak. I gave up. I had to sell the car. I bought it with 0 miles. Never missed a service. All with Honda dealer. Did all recommend services. Only 60k on it, and had to sell. Honda dealer says theres no fix. Honda is so disappointing now. My last civic was a 1997, had 240k on it and AC still worked. What happened Honda? How do you not have a fix?! Honda website says condenser was not made to spec. Leaks because of it. So make one to spec! Stop giving us the same condenser that will fail within a few months. Other than the AC unit, no complaints. However thats a real deal breaker even if youre like me and live in Seattle. When its 90 and above and youre in traffic not moving you need AC. I love Honda. I buy cars that are reliable, thats my main priority. I guess Honda is off that list now. It should have been a recall with an actual fix. However they just keep giving you the same problem over and over (5x) until it breaks more parts. Very disappointing."

    Anonymous A., WA (2017 Honda Civic EX-L 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"HVAC failed and needed replaced at substantial cost. It was later covered under warranty through Honda"

Anonymous, OH (2017 Honda Civic EX-T 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"My air conditioner stopped cooling. I searched online and found that there was a known problem with the A/C on Civics including mine and expected Honda to fix it for free. But the dealer said the part of my A/C that failed was right next to the "secret recall" part and charged me $900+ to replace it. After my protests, they contacted Honda and refunded me $800+."

Anonymous, OH (2017 Honda Civic LX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"In May 2020, the air conditioning in my Honda Civic (purchased in December 2016) completely stopped working, after 41 months. The condenser was broken. After using the services of the Office pour la Protection du Consommateur and the APA (Association pour la Protection des Automobilistes), I sent a formal notice to Honda Canada and Chambly Honda. Honda Canada finally repaired my air conditioning at its expense."

Anonymous, QC (2017 Honda Civic LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Refrigerant leaks

"Dealer replaced leaking condenser under warranty extension for A/C condenser leaking: service bulletin 19-091."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Civic EX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"The issue was identified when it felt like the A/C was taking a longer time than normal to cool the vehicle cabin"

Anonymous, TX (2017 Honda Civic LX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Making noise when AC is on and seems leaking"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Civic Touring 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The AC stopped being cold and I had to have a leak repaired"

Anonymous, NJ (2017 Honda Civic Si 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"A/C unit began to fail in spring of 2023. Had evaporator unit replaced, and A/C performance improved although not like new. Performance declined by fall of 2023. Condenser replaced in spring of 2024. A/C performance is now like new."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Civic EX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Refrigerant leaks due to faulty compressor seals and poorly made condenser. Dealer installed more refrigerant on two occasions and finally replaced defect components on a factory recall."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Honda Civic LX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Not sure where the leak is yet but my A/C has stopped blowing cold. Topped up system for now but financially unable to run a diagnostic as it wont ne covered by Honda until determined to be a part of recall."

    Anonymous, (2017 Honda Civic EX-L 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"I had to put freon in my Civic as the air quit getting cold. I got a letter from Honda about a month later. There was a defect in some Civics and said they recognized the problem and would fix it at a Honda dealership. They replaced some things. They stressed that it was not a recall"

Anonymous, MO (2017 Honda Civic Unsure)

"I was told the AC was defective and until they were able to get the parts or get it working correctly I had to take it back 5 times. They extended the warranty a bit for this proactively."

Anonymous, NJ (2017 Honda Civic LX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Apple CarPlay

"Screen becomes blank after receiving and hanging up calls or sometimes no reason"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Civic Touring 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Display screen freezes up

"It occurred once while driving and I had to pull over to the side of the road. I turned off the engine and tried again. It eventually started up and I was able to get to my destination. My brother reset the electrical system. The system eventually rebooted and everything was back to normal the following day."

Anonymous, NS (2017 Honda Civic EX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"I usually have to turn the car off and let the capacitors drain when this happens. Once I turn the car back on it usually resets. Not all the time."

Anonymous, NC (2017 Honda Civic LX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"I wrote about this in my comments before this one."

Anonymous A., NC (2017 Honda Civic EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"When iPhone is plugged into USB port, display key buttons will not work. Interface between iPhone and car is not operable. I need to unplug the connection, set up my music, plug it back in, press play from my phone. steering wheel controls work only. Volume knob is only control that works on dash. No car play. Do not experience this problem in other cars with same phone."

Anonymous, NC (2017 Honda Civic LX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"The display screen started to appear 'burnt in' approx 1 year ago. The display is normal when the car is first started then deteriorates. This happens pretty consistently. I haven't had it repaired due to cost"

Anonymous, MA (2017 Honda Civic EX-T 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Steering And Suspension

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    What Owners Say

    Other steering/suspension problem

"The problem with the steering wheel is the same as the issues the CRV's are having. Was told by the dealership they have only seen a few in the civics. They have me an estimate of $4000 which was to replace the rack & pinion which I thought was absurd even after doing the research. I even reached out to Honda Customer Service, no help. It is the worst during the hot months which makes sense since the steering is electric vs hydraulic.. I started having this issue before my warranty ran out & was pretty much made to feel I was imagining this issue. My screen freezing was also "blown off" even after an update. My AC had a recall on the seals & they were replaced but I still have issues with it where the air temperature does not always stay cold. Sure wish someone could solve & fix this problem without costing a fortune!!"

Anonymous A., NC (2017 Honda Civic EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Overall the 2017 is very reliable and gas effecient"

Anonymous, QC (2017 Honda Civic EX-T 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Steering linkage (includes rack and pinion)

""Sticky steering' is what it's called. Bottom line, had to replace entire rack and pinion assembly. Obvious safety issue Honda is ignoring. Shame on them."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Honda Civic EX-T 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Wheel bearings

"The ball bearing on the front wheel driver side got damaged probably due to the very many potholes that appear after winter, it start iff as a vibrating sound, and as days and weeks advanced the vibrating sounds became more noticeable, in term of wheel safety I had to wheel bearing replacement"

Anonymous, QC (2017 Honda Civic EX-T 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Paint And Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

    What Owners Say

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"Bought the Accord and the Civic the same day. They have been parked side-by-side in the same driveway every night since. The Accord's roof looks like new. The Civic's roof look like it is 30 years old. The sealant has worn off. The paint has faded and worn to where we started to worry about it rusting out. And the trunk is starting to follow suit. It is in the shop being painted as I type. The estimate was between $1000-$2000 and, of course, Honda was of no help."

Anonymous A., MA (2017 Honda Civic LX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Fuel System/Emissions

Sensors (O₂, or oxygen, sensor), emission-control devices (includes EGR), fuel-injection system, fuel gauge/sender, fuel pump, problems filling up the tank.

    What Owners Say

    Fuel injection system

"Check Engine Light Came on, I took it in to have it repaired: Replace Fuel Injector/Joint Pipe which seemed to fix it. I have only experienced it once. The problem was resolved relatively quickly, but not inexpensively."

Anonymous A., WA (2017 Honda Civic Touring 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
