"Power steering failed attributed to need to replace the electrical components"

Anonymous, VA (2019 Honda Civic EX 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"This happened suddenly, after not driving the vehicle for two days. The vehicle started but every warning light came on and the power steering did not work (and thus it could not be driven safely). After having it towed to a Honda dealership the diagnosis was that a mouse or other rodent had chewed through the power steering wiring, which is located near the bottom of the engine bay and is coated in soy-based insulation which tastes good to rodents. This matched what internet searches had also highlighted as the most likely cause of the issue. Fixing the issue required a new wiring harness. Total cost for towing the vehicle, having the harness replaced, and having it wrapped with rodent-repelling tape (laced with capsaicin oil) was around $450. This is apparently a somewhat well-known issue with Hondas from this time period."

This keeps me from driving long distance as I am afraid that the fuel pump will fail I have occasionally had trouble getting the car to start but for some reason the code is not stored and when I take it to the dealer they're not seeing the code the best I can do is take a picture of the dash when this happens."
