    What Owners Say

    Cylinder head

""Car broke down on highway when on a trip within Ontario on November 11, 2024. We were driving at 100 km an hour. Occurred without any warning and without previous problems. Car only driven 14,705km. Heard sudden loud engine noise with shuddering of whole car, followed by loss of power. Notice on dash board stated "STOP DRIVING." Moved off to shoulder. Restarted but same problems and pulled off again. (Terrifying as within 3-4 feet of large passing trucks waiting for help for a long time.) Car eventually towed to large Honda dealer in Ottawa, Ontario, the nearest large town. Car took about 8 weeks to repair. No communication from Honda but the Company authorized dealership to do repair work under warranty. Meanwhile we were given a small rental car without winter tires - in a winter with very heavy snowfall - and were told we would need to pay if we wanted proper tires! Service invoice, dated 6 January, 2025, states: "scanned car code and found code p303 misfire cylinder 3 .....scoped all cylinder to see what had caused it due to known head gasket failures and found that the cylinder 3 piston has cracked causing oil to leak and cause misfire...recommend checking valves to see if they are good [sic]and if valves are good - recommend replacing engine due to piston braking [sic] could have other internal damage....contacted tech line and was told to inspect the head for damage .. if no damage is present on the head replace piston #3 with rings rod and bearings." It seems that Honda authorized the minimal amount of repairs to the engine. They did do further repairs to the steering gear box, probably as part of a recall that Honda had put out. We have copies of the invoices. We also have photos of the crack across the cylinder head which the mechanic at the Ottawa dealership thought could have been due to metal failure. If so, this suggests that other cylinder heads manufactured at the same time from the same batch of steel can also expect problems or may also have had problems. The car has functioned satisfactorily since January 2025 but we do not have faith in it and do not plan to take it on long trips. Presumably it also lost a considerable amount of value due to this serious breakdown.""
