    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen freezes up

"Phone pairs and voice control works but touch screen controls don't work. Need to disconnect the 0h9ne and reconnect it to get it to start working correctly."

Anonymous, NJ (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Display screen goes blank

"The main computer chip for navigation, radio, phone etc. failed. Was replaced by the dealer under warranty. During a cross country trip, returning home the radio went dead. The info screen went black at the same time. After several seconds it came on. It did several cycles. I changed radio stations about the third or fourth failure to confirm that it was the car versus the station defaulting. The problem continued with a different frequency clarifying that it was the car. We ceased listening to the radio or using any other systems at that time. As we were 12 hours from home, we were concerned about the implications of further electronic issues. Upon arrival at home, the dealer made the necessary corrections. The computer chi failed."

Anonymous, KS (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"It was tied to the previous issue, computer chip failure."

Anonymous, KS (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"There is a recurring echo when I make calls and receive them."

Anonymous, CA (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Wireless charging barely works. Does not matter if you have a case on your phone or not. Most times it will connect and charge for a few minutes and then just stop. Sometimes it wont event connect."

Anonymous A., NY (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Sometimes the phone just doesn't connect. Try repeatedly. Turn car off and back on. Eventually get a message that the oh one isn't compatible with the car. When this happens, it happens for both Android Auto and Apple Car Play. Eventually it resolves itself but it could take a while. Usually not a problem because most of my driving is local and I know the roads. It's a real problem if I'm dependent on GPS to get somewhere."

Anonymous, NJ (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    "It gets funky"

Anonymous, CA (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Voice control commands

"Voice command to connect/activate navigation doesn't work anymore."

Anonymous, CA (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Pulsation or vibration

"Once during winter, in a storm involving sleet, my breaks froze and caused excessive vibration while driving at any speed above 20 miles per hour. On the highway, it felt so intense that it seemed as though my tires would break off / fall off. I brought it to the dealership, they had to remove the tires and remove ice chunks from the wheel wells. They stated that due to the lack of space between the wheel well and 19 inch tires, the ice built up and was unable to recede as it would on a vehicle that has more space between the tire and well."

Anonymous, MN (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Squeaking

"brakes squeak almost always and make an awful grinding noise particularly when wet. Honda says there's nothing wrong with brakes."

Anonymous, NY (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"When the vehicle gets wet from rain or snow, or it is excessively cold outside during winter, while driving in reverse, such as backing out of a parking space, and while keeping my foot on the break so that the vehicle drives in reverse at an appropriate speed / slowly, the vehicle sounds like a dying whale. It is very, very, loud and embarrassing. It does this every time that this situation occurs. It does so as well for my two coworkers who have the same vehicle but 2022 model."

Anonymous, MN (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"The driver's side front brake was squeaky early in the car's life. We had it looked at a couple of times but nothing was detected. When the 32K service called for brake inspection, they discovered inadequate lubrication, probably right from the factory. They did minor smoothing of the pads and rotors, improved the lubrication, and the squeaking is gone."

    Steering And Suspension

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    What Owners Say

    Power steering

"the power steering started vibrating and locking up when the turning the steering wheel at 45 mph and higher"

Anonymous, FL (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Steering sticks when trying to keep the car driving in a straight line, requiring effort that can result in over correction. Dealer says the electronic power steering gearbox needs to be replaced under warrantee, but the part has been on back order for several months. First noticed the problem at 11300 miles."

Anonymous, NY (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
Steering linkage (includes rack and pinion)

"Power steering gearbox started malfunctioning less then 6 months after we bought it. The steering started binding, catching and jerking when we made small steering adjustments to stay in lane. We took it to the dealer in Nov. 2023 and they said it needed a new power steering gear box. and ordered it, but said it was on back order for months. They said it was safe to drive. they problem gradually got worse and in March I told them I didn't feel safe driving it, so they put it on the lot and got us a rental car until the part came in.It finally came in and they repaired it a month later. It took Honda 6 months to replace this faulty part under warranty."

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Other/unsure

"A screw worked its way into the edge of one tire ... required tire replacement ... took four trips to the dealer to get problem analyzed and tire replaced."

    Anonymous A., CA (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Only own one 2023 Honda hybrid"

Anonymous, NC (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Choppy steering - entire steering rack had to be replaced"

Anonymous, MO (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    EV Battery

    What Owners Say

Electric/hybrid battery pack malfunction (didn't need replacement)

"Twice, at different locations, I made a U-turn and the car system stopped working. I put the car into park and restarted the vehicle. I and my wife were happy that there wasn't any traffic coming our way. I took the car to the dealer. The first time I was told that they could not find anything wrong, but they replaced the battery. The second time the dealer again told me there wasn't anything wrong, but I should not use the B shifter. I said the B shifter should not have been put on the transmission, they just smiled. I don't use the B shifter and use the car sparingly."

Anonymous A., SC (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"The electric motor seldom performs by itself, even at idle. I am now told that one has to drive it 10 to 15 thousand miles per year for the electric motor to get charged enough to perform as advertised. If I had known that, I'd have bought a plug-in hybrid car."

Anonymous A., KY (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Other electric/hybrid battery problem

"When it was very cold, the display said it was too cold to operate"

Anonymous, AB (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

Other major transmission & clutch problem

"When quick acceleration response is needed, getting on highway, avoiding, passing, going uphill- the CVVT downshifts and revs @ high rpms above 4000 while not providing actual power to the axles (i.e. you out your foot down and it makes a high pitched soudlnd and you dont go anywhere, its dangerous)"

Anonymous, CA (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Transmission rebuild or replacement

    "The transmission failed"

Anonymous, CO (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Received warning about transmission on display and took it in and the dealer did a software update. Trouble returned in a week and the dealer replaced the transmission."

Anonymous A., NJ (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    Automatic climate control

"I frequently have to adjust the temperature setting depending on outside weather conditions. With my previous 2020 CR-V I could just set it and leave it alone."

Anonymous A., NY (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Other climate system problem

"The front window defroster is a poor design where it does not keep the front and side windows clear in cold weather without using very high heat and fan speed. Had it in to Honda dealer and they said that is the way it works, or doesn't work!"

Anonymous, SD (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.

    What Owners Say

    Engine rebuild or replacement

"Gas portion of the engine experienced complete failure on the highway as Cylinder/piston cracked after only 4 months of ownership. After repeated phone calls by both us and the Honda Dealershp...Honda spent one month of searching for a replacement engine. Honda finally did install the new engine under warranty. And after 2 weeks of no automobile over the holidays, they agreed to give us a loaner car for 2 weeks. HOWEVER, the car has experienced significant drop in combined mileage since the engine replacement at 4,500miles. Average fuel efficiency dropped from 34mpg combined to 27mpg with largest drop on the highway. HONDA USA customer service has been incredibly difficult to work with and the customer service contacts uneducated about their own product. For example, I was asked how big the fuel tank was when asked to calculate the mpg manually. After 3 months of constant calling, they sent a factor technician to evaluate the car. He took it from Dealership and drop it for 2 days. Neither the Dealer nor I were informed of what was done or not done.....but customer service called to inform us that the car worked great with combined fuel efficiency of 40mpg.....which exceeds the sticker AND greatly exceeds what we were getting when the car was new (34.5mpg). Honda USA customer service handled this poorly that after being a loyal Honda customer....4 Honda's over last 20years, we decided to replacement my aging Honda Pilot with a new Toyota Grand Highlander. My wife will likely never buy another Honda based on how they handled"

Anonymous, MI (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Other major engine problem

"The gasoline engine began to Start roughly during the handoff from the electric motor by the eCVT. I took it to the dealership and they said one of the fuel injector valves was frozen in the open position. The replaced the complete assembly and all has been well ever since."

    Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, four-wheel-drive/all-wheel-drive components, driveline vibration, electrical failure, traction control, electronic stability control.

    What Owners Say

    Driveline vibration

"Periodic significant vibration/ shuddering at speed. Still a mystery. Going back to the dealer for second attempt at finding source"

Anonymous, ON (2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Other driveline problem

"the power steering issue was a known problem by Honda, as research showed over 530,000 reports of the power steering locking up on turns at higher rates of speed. But it took some effort and protest to get Honda to replace the electronic power steering. They would never really own up to the fact that there was a problem. It took about two months to fix. They did agree to provide me a comparable SUV while my car was being fixed but it did not come without a bit of a screaming match. Interstate driving became very worrisome as the steering would be begin to lock up during turns and it often felt like you couldn't adjust or bring it back to a comfortable driving position. Traveling through quick turn adjustments and rain was frightening."
