    Engine rebuild or replacement

""The problem began while we were on our way to church Easter Sunday, 4/20. It started with a sound like when you drive over freshly filled pothole, the sound of the gravel in the mix being picked up by the tires and thrown up into the fender pans. That's what we thought it was until we noticed there weren't any freshly repaired potholes where we were driving. About a block later the Check Engine light slowly flashed on and off several times and the Driving Mode indicator flashed between Econ and Normal a couple of times. We were close to church so we kept going. As we approached the parking lot the engine lost power and we coasted into a parking place at the edge of the parking lot. After church I didn't try to start it. Instead I called for a tow truck and had it taken to the dealer. The Service Advisor called Monday afternoon to say the spark plug from the #1 cylinder was very difficult to remove and when they got it out the bottom of it was smashed flat. I was told the piston had become disconnected from the connecting rod and the piston was broken. I told the Service Advisor The noise we heard was nothing like that type of a failure. He said when they tried to start it it made a lot of noise. I was also told the repair would involve a new short block and cylinder head. A couple of days later I was told the cylinder head was on back order and it could be several weeks or a month before it would arrive. On April 30, I was told it could take a couple of months to get the cylinder head. I asked if it might be quicker to get a new engine and was told that would take longer. Honda has provided us with a rental car. On 5/6 I called American Honda Customer Support. They were unable to give me any information as to why the part was in such short supply. I asked if the warranty could be extended, I was told the original warranty cannot be extended but, if I had purchased an extended warranty, which I had not, it may be able to be extended. So, we're waiting. This is our 5th Honda. I would appreciate any wise counsel CR could provide on how I might deal with this situation.""

    EV Battery

Electric/hybrid battery pack failure, replacement or malfunction, or cooling.

    What Owners Say

    Electric/hybrid battery pack replacement

""My CRV died on January 31 in Largo Florida. Honda roadside assistance arranged a tow to the dealership. They towed my AWD with the rear wheels on the ground. Damages from this are yet unknown. In the first 2 weeks it was determined the battery pack was part of the problem. US and Canadian engineers were involved in determining the issue with the car. The were looking for a $1.00 part and not an $8000.00 part in case this issue lead to a recall. They finally called in the fixer. A traveling master tech. His recommendation would be final and required for any further repairs to proceed. His written report was completed on March 14th. He authorized replacing the battery pack along with several other parts. Honda engineers fought over sourcing the battery pack from Canada or the US. It was decided the US battery would be ok. That decision was reversed. Final decision, order the battery from Canada. As of today, April 27th, we are in week 14 of this fiasco. I was told 12 days ago a battery was shipped from Calgary Alberta to Halifax Nova Scotia where my dealer is located. It has not yet arrived. My home dealer then has to forward the battery to Florida. This has something to do with customs requirements. With all the stories I have been told and deadlines not met I really have no idea if or when my vehicle will be repaired. When I take possession of my vehicle I have to immediately drive over 3000 km. back to Nova Scotia. My wife says she will never drive in that vehicle again. I will always have the fear of it stopping dead on the highway without any warning. The Florida dealership gave us a courtesy car for 7 weeks before we decided to fly home. After I blew up at Honda customer care they have approved a rental until I return from Florida with my repaired vehicle. The service managers at both dealerships have been great. I am sure Florida wants my car gone and my local dealership wants this resolved. Until recently, we have been extremely calm and patient. Enough is enough. Sooner or later the words legal action and buyback have to come into the discussion. I will be more that happy to have you contact me to discuss further. I was a loyal Honda customer for well over 20 years. Right now we are afraid to drive in one. E-mail is .""
