Anonymous, NY (2016 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)
    Keyless entry

"After getting the fuel rails and injectors replaced, the "walk-away-lock" feature stopped working. Dealer had to replace the keyless entry module. Working OK now."

Anonymous, GA (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Simply getting keyless remote error on dash. Car starts fine. Entry is a bit funky."

    Anonymous, WA (2016 Honda Pilot 3.5-L V6)

"Keyless entry was not working from time to time. Was a recall on an electrical part."

Anonymous, IN (2016 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)

"It's just a warning light that comes up. I haven't taken it in because the cost to fix it is over $1000 and the car is still working."

    Anonymous, LA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

    "Sensor error"

    Anonymous, CA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Key fob would stop working inherently. Would not start car"

    Anonymous A., (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)
    Other electrical system problem

"Battery is maybe 2 years old and the start stop begins failing. Battery is double cost of standard battery, but once it dips slightly the start stop fails while in use causing the car to not re-engage, e.g. you're in an intersection and the car won't restart, just a bunch of errors."

Anonymous, PA (2016 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Battery died. Very expensive to replace."

    Anonymous, IL (2016 Honda Pilot 3.5-L V6)

"Transmission lost programming code twice this year. Re-programmed PCM the a second occurrence 6 months later related to speed sensor. Dealer found no issue, reset the code and problem hasnt reoccurred. Second occurrence ; transmission and engine stuttered on interstate with multiple warning lights. pulled over shut of motor and restarted and it ran fine but went to dealer who couldnt find the issue. No problems since."

Anonymous, IN (2016 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Intermittent rapid flickering of dash warning lights, rapid clicking of relays, and triggering of security alarm. Root cause was dendritic growth causing short circuit in power control unit. A portion of the PCU circuit board was not properly sealed during production, which allows dendritic growth to form and eventually leads to a short circuit. The DIY fix entailed removing the PCU, cleaning off the dendritic growth and applying sealant to stop any further short circuiting of the PCU components. This manufacturing defect is common with Honda Pilot and Ridgeline models of this vintage. The alternative is to replace the PCU altogether. That would be a waste of money. The problem persisted for several weeks. Having the alarm go off in the middle of the night isn't popular with the neighbors. The diagnosis repair was found on YouTube. I repaired the PCU in Aug 2023. The situation was resolved with reoccurrences."

Anonymous, BC (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Honda sent an SB that they would replace the starter motor. The real issue is the button. Once that was replaced, the auto shutdown feature was turned off I no longer need to press the button to disable this feature. I had the button replaced at a Honda dealership. I feel they shouldve covered that since it causes the starter motor to fail"

Anonymous, FL (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)
    Remote engine starter

"Keyless start issue was an identified problem with 2016-2017 Pilots and were the subject of a service bulletin. I was getting warning lights and the dealer replaced the remote start switch under a Honda extended 9 year warranty on the problem. No cost to me."

    Anonymous, VA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"700 dollars to replace the remote starter in the dashboard withing 6 months of purchase."

    Anonymous, CO (2016 Honda Pilot 3.5-L V6)
    Warning lights

"The fuel rail and injectores failed causing warning lights for engine and transmission to intermittently come on. Also, all the warning lights would come on and stay on. The dealer replaced the fuel rails and injectors. I cleaned and sprayed the fuse box ground plate, twice, and the lights all went off. Glass Doctor replaced the broken windshield, and the LKAS lights stayed on and adaptive cruise was disabled. The Glass Doctor had to change the windshield to OEM Honda windshield before the warning lights went out and calibration was sucessful. LKAS working OK now."

Anonymous, GA (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)

    Anonymous, VA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"The radio works about 15 minutes, when cool, but then stops working. There is no longer any sound. Likewise the navigation system also stops speaking directions. Similarly the in car phone doesnt work either after radio stops working. The dealer says the entire unit must be replaced for a cost of $1500, which I have not yet done."

Anonymous, NC (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Same problem with the radio, no sound after 15 minutes of use of car regardless of the radio being used."

Anonymous, NC (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)
    Voice control commands

"The system does not understand any voice commands. It interrupts me mid sentence to ask me if I said something that was totally arbitrary yo my command."

Anonymous, ON (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)

"The voice control system starts on its own randomly and doesn't stop. It constantly says, "Pardon? No command was heard." It doesn't happen every time you drive the car, but easily over 75% of the time, and you can't get it to stop. Haven't yet found a solution."

    Anonymous A., OH (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

    Anonymous, WA (2016 Honda Pilot 3.5-L V6)

"Service lights came on. Out of town dealer could not repair because they couldnt get parts. Local dealer refused to replace injectors because out of town dealer reset lights. I had to contact Honda to have injectors replaced under warranty."

    Anonymous A., TN (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Check engine light came on, lost power and the car was shaking. Mechanic said it was due to cheap fuel, and that it required using 93 octane from major fuel providers. No problems since."

    Anonymous A., FL (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)

"A factory recall on the injector system at the same time the injectors were acting up"

    Anonymous, NY (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"The issue was first detected with an emissions system problem display that occurred intermittently over time for 3 years. I read that Honda had issued an extended warranty for fuel injectors up to 150,000 miles so I took it into the dealership at 148,000 miles. They said I needed a catalytic converter and fuel injectors and had a leaky oil pump. The repairs took 4 days and cost $4300 even with the fuel injectors covered by the warranty. The system error light has not recurred since the repair."

Anonymous, FL (2016 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)

"Problem took a while to identify because symptoms were intermittant."

    Anonymous, CA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

    Anonymous A., LA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"The Honda Pilot had a Black Death air conditioning system failure. The refrigerant breaks down, grimy and sharp particles are formed, which infect the rest of the air conditioning system."

    What Owners Say

    Rough shifting

"The transmission on the 2016 Honda Pilot does not shift smoothly or reliably. There is often a pause in reaction between pressing the gas and acceleration. When trying to merge into highway traffic, the acceleration process is jerky, especially if in economy mode."

Anonymous, FL (2016 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)

"The transmission fluid must be changed more than any car I have ever owned. Honda performed a software update that helped a little, but after 15,000 miles or more the transmission fluid smells burnt and you will experience strange shifting. The car has never been undriveable, but it is very annoying. It can also put you in dangerous situations when the vehicle will not downshift and accelerate."

    Anonymous, GA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"It would gallop when the car drove about 45 to 50 mph I believe there was a recall on the particular issue and the dealership fixed it, but we had to be persistent.
