The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2018 Honda Pilot owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Transmission Minor

Gear selector and linkage, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks.

    What Owners Say

Other minor transmission & clutch problem

"I already described the problems, but they began when I purchased the car new from the showroom when they were clearing their 2018 models in January of 2019. Since then, I've had it back tywice to beg the dealer's maintenance department, and they say it's just how that year's model works."

    Anonymous A., IL (2018 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)
    Slipping transmission

"The filters are built into the transmission, so they cannot replace. Less than every 30K miles, you feel a sluggish lurching feeling when the car is accelerating. The transmission needs to be flushed multiple times to clean the filters 1st time cost $400. Fluids are not covered under warranty. I've had to have this done twice and I have less than 60K miles on it. Previously, according to my mechanic, transmissions should be flushed every 100K miles. I would not buy this car again just because of this issue."

    Anonymous, NC (2018 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Transmission slipping around 35mph. Transmission fluid change fixed issue but cost $600 at dealership"

    Anonymous, FL (2018 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)
    Transmission leaks

"I tappears there is a chronic problem with 6 spped automatic transmission overheating. Everyone on the internet knows about it but Honda is silent and won't offer advice."

Anonymous, MA (2018 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)

    Fuel System/Emissions

Sensors (O₂, or oxygen, sensor), emission-control devices (includes EGR), fuel-injection system, fuel gauge/sender, fuel pump, problems filling up the tank.

    What Owners Say

    Emission control devices (includes EGR)

    Fuel injection system

"On the road at highway speeds when the emissions system alert appeared. I was able to drive home and the next morning drive to my mechanic. He ran a scan and got the code for the fuel injectors problem. He also noted that the issue was covered under an extended warrantee for the injectors and was actually in a recall notice. I had not yet received the recall notice as the parts were backordered. I contacted my Honda dealer and was advised that I had to get the vehicle to the dealership for repair. Since it over 150 km to the dealer I was unwilling to drive the vehicle. I called Honda Roadside Assistance and they transported the vehicle to the dealer. I am still waiting for the repair to be completed - it was scheduled for today."

Anonymous, ON (2018 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)

"I received an error message that the fuel injection failed at least once. There was a recall so they replaced it but note it still doesnt smoothly engage the fuel injection. When you try to speed up quickly, it slowly engages and then all of a sudden jolts forward. There is a new recall in that which said they dont have a solution for yet and dealer said they wont replace it under the car registers a failure in the codes which it hasnt fine yet. It is still drivable its just annoying when you try to speed up quickly."

Anonymous, UT (2018 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)
    Fuel pump

"There is currently a recall notice for a problem with the fuel pump which could cause it to not start or to cause the engine to stop while operating the vehicle. Currently waiting for notification that parts are available at my local dealer to have hepairs made at Honda's expense"

    Anonymous A., LA (2018 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen goes blank

"Sometimes our display screen goes completely blank. Nothing comes up on the screen. Usually if we turn the car off and restart it, the issue is resolved. The ambient temperature thermostat also malfunctions, causing issues with the climate control. We first noticed this issue about four months ago."

    Anonymous, (2018 Honda Pilot 3.5-L V6)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"ALL sensors and systems reported a long list of error codes(30-40 different codes) On the highway, car suddenly ran slowly, very rough, as if 3 cylinders weren't firing. Drove it home very slowly. Many similar postings on youtube.. one thread said "remove, clean and tighten battery connections, let car stay disconnected for 5-10 minutes" THAT worked. At Honda dealer 6 months later, they updated software, as that was "due". Problem's not reappeared. Good thing an honest Honda technician posted his fix for the trouble. Apparently some dealers are unscrupulous and will charge for unrelated, unnecessary "fixes" that do nothing."

    Anonymous A., ME (2018 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)
    Voice control commands

"More often than not when I use voice command to try to call someone it either says the person not recognized or pulls up the wrong information(often random numbers). It has happened since we purchased the car and is frankly very irritating, especially when I drive in other cars and use their voice commands for calls and have no problems accessing my phone book."

    Anonymous, (2018 Honda Pilot 3.5-L V6)

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Torque converter

"Driving on the highway when message appeared on dash indicating 'transmission problem'. Called Honda dealer and told to tow vehicle or druive very slowly no more than 25 miles. Towed to dealer who repaired torque converter at no charge."

    Anonymous, MO (2018 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)
    Transmission rebuild or replacement

"Torque converter replaced under warranty at 59000 miles, transmission required replacement at 67000 miles. Appealed to Honda and after 3 tries (sending in all service records, etc) they agreed to cover costs."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)

    "Recall"

    "It's on a recall"

Anonymous, FL (2018 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)

    What Owners Say

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"The paint, specifically on the passenger's side, front part above the tire began to have sun spots - fading, and it looks like it's almost to the metal (if it's metal). the size of the area is about 1.5' in length and 6" in height. This is the most serious but there are other spots that appear to be fading - mainly above the driver's side door. Also, the roof's clear coat is peeling."
