What Owners Say

Engine rebuild or replacement

"The cylinders and side wall on the 1.8 Nu engine are made of two different alloys. They heat at different rates. In cold climates the piston expands and scrapes the side wall until everything is warm. Required a full short block replacement. Typical failure range is 80-150k miles."

Anonymous, MO (2016 Hyundai Elantra GT 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"I had under 80K miles on the car, and it started making a rattling sound. My son is a mechanic and as soon as he started the car told me to take it immediately to the Sunset Hyundai dealer that I bought it from because the engine was about to go out on it. Fortunately, Hyundai knew about these vehicles having this engine problem and had to replace the engine. I was without a car for almost 2 months while they completed all of the paperwork and many phone calls by my son to the Hyundai corporate office. If it weren't for my son's help, I would have had to pay for a new engine. I will never buy a hyundai vehicle again."
