    EV Charging

Won't charge at home; won't work with some public chargers; won't fully charge; charge connection; charge port door.

    What Owners Say

    Charge connection problem

"AC charging overheats and stops charging. Hot at port. Same symptom on several different level 2 chargers."

Anonymous A., WA (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

"Your box will not take a long answer."

Anonymous, FL (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL Electric)
    Charges too slowly

"Known issue with all Hyundai GMP platform cars. The AC inlet temp gets to high (over 230F) and trips the overheat sensor, which stops charging the car. Hyundai provided a "band-aid" solution software fix that reduces charging rate when AC inlet temp on charging port reaches a certain temp. Car is advertised to AC charge at 11kw, however, in reality it's more like 7kw, which significantly extends the time to recharge the battery. Class-action lawsuit has been filed against Hyundai and dealers seem to just ignore the problem, or say it's working as intended (band-aid software fix)."

Anonymous, CA (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

"TSB: 23-EV-003H; There is a problem charging the car at 48A. Hyundai fails to fully address this problem. The safety measure drops the charge down to roughly half the kW/h, which means double the charging time. I purchased this car as Hyundai claims and constantly advertises that this is the fastest charging car on the market. Hyundai claims the car can charge 48A/11Kw/h using a level 2 home charger. The vehicle fails to charge at this level and often stops charging all together. I have complained about this to Hyundai and they do not take this seriously. Something needs to be done about this charging problem and lack of accountability."

Anonymous, PA (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

"Have to reduce charging rate to prevent overheating."

Anonymous A., WA (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)
    Charging port problem

"The onboard charger would not accept a charge from a level 2 or 3 charger. The entire onboard charger had to be replaced."

Anonymous A., FL (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

"Known issue that charging port overheats in hot weather and car would stop charging. Hyundai released a bandaid software fix that now slows charging when port gets hot thus slowing charging speed. Vehicle no longer charges at advertised level 2 charging speeds and takes longer to charge. It wasnt really a fix from Hyundai but more of a way to get out of repairing actually problem"

Anonymous, BC (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL Electric)
    Other electric/hybrid charging problem

"The ICCU on my 2023 IONIQ 5 Limited (odo 11,096) failed on March 5, 2024. It had to be towed to the nearest Hyundai EV service center, about 60 miles away, in Killeen, Texas. Picked up the car on March 21 after they replaced the ICCU (36400-1XAA0-QQH) and high voltage fuse. This problem incapacitated the car. I also learned my failure coincided with a major recall that entailed replacing the unit and a related software update."

Anonymous, TX (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

"After 4 months of charging at 48A the car would stop charging. I reduced it to 35A and it charged without issue for about 10 months. After that it stopped charging even at 32A and now I have to reduce my amperage to 28A to charge it without it cutting out."

Anonymous A., NJ (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL Electric)

    "Icca"

Anonymous, MA (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)
    Problem charging in cold/bad weather

"Typical charging problems in the cold weather and the range drops significantly in the cold weather"

Anonymous, PA (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)
    Problem with on-board inverter

"ICCU failed at around 7700 miles after having both software updates to try and prevent the issue. Car was out of service for 2 months while waiting for parts"

Anonymous, NH (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

"ICCU failure, to be replaced by the dealer."

Anonymous, DC (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL Electric)
Problem with the charging cable/cord that came with this vehicle

"Cover came off one of the plug in ports. Ordered a new part and fixed in a week. No problems"

Anonymous, GA (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)
    Won't charge at home

"AFTER THE ONBOARD CHARGING UNIT WAS REPLACED, I HAVE HAD CONSTANT PROBLEMS WITH THE 12-VOLT BATTERY DISCHARGING. I HAVE JUMP-STARTED THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES."

Anonymous A., FL (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)
    Won't fully charge

"It charges for a short period of time and then the charging fails."

Anonymous, VI (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL Electric)

"When the weather became warmer last year, the car stopped charging on its own. Although the Hyundai dealership said they were unaware of any problems, I found a website ( The Ionic Guy) that described the issue and found a problem sheet from the car company that I was able to take to the dealership for a repair."

Anonymous A., OR (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

"Noise over bumps in rear of vehicle. Found service bulletin for problem online and had rear hatch hardware replaced"

Anonymous, FL (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

"A rattle began coming from the trunk in March 2024. The noise happens when i go over small bumps or potholes. Hyundai had a TNB for issue which I took in to resolve. The fix worked for one day."

Anonymous, VA (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL Electric)

"Tailgate rattle. Dealership installed paper washer that didn't work. 3D printed 1 mm washers and install self. Fixed the problem"

Anonymous, BC (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

"Rear latch was not hold the door closed tightly so was replaced"

Anonymous, BC (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

"Apparently a well-document problem, a metallic clicking sound seems to be coming from interior rear of the car. Hyundai replaced the sunroof assembly, which did not correct the problem. Now my dealer says that a team of Hyundai engineers have been called to analysis and troubleshoot the problem."

Anonymous, TX (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

"Trunk rattles when going over bumps. Known issue with the cars though dealers often make the problem worse so I've just lived with it"

Anonymous, NH (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    12V battery

"It started abruptly one evening with the warning that the 1 2v battery was off line. We got the car home, but it would not start again. It had to be towed to the dealer for a replacement of the ICCU"

Anonymous, NY (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

"The 12v system has failed repeatedly. The first few times resulted in a dead 12v battery and the car required a jump start. Recently the 12v system completely failed and the ICCU needs to be replaced. There is a warranty recall for this problem. But now the car has been at the dealer for a week and the hope to be able to get the needed parts within a couple more weeks. This is an unconscionable wait time for replacement parts for this car, they should not have sold it if they cannot provide the parts needed to repair it."

Anonymous A., MN (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

"12v battery failed twice. Once while driving; once while parked. When driving car slowed itself and said to pull over. Battery died soon after. When parked the car was unable to start. Since these issues a major recall was issued and the problem has been resolved."

Anonymous, MA (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

"12V battery died completely about 10 months after buying the car. I would have to jump the car with a portable jumper each time I started it. Got the 12V battery replaced under warranty."

Anonymous A., NJ (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL Electric)
    Cruise control

"Adaptative cruise control doesn't always stop with stopped cars in front me. Braking and acceleration are significantly too aggressive"

Anonymous A., IN (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL Electric)
    Exterior lights (other than headlights)

"Brake lights don't activate when slowing down without removing foot completely in single pedal mode"

Anonymous A., IN (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL Electric)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen goes blank

Anonymous A., VT (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)
    Radio

"looses all the radio pre sets when switching to different user"

Anonymous, TX (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)
    Steering wheel controls

"This has assisted driver guidance. And sometimes in the curve it will try to drive right off the road by either going straight or over steering to the gutter. I dont use it ever anymore."

Anonymous A., OR (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL Electric)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    Heater system

"Heater didnt function from the beginnng but they replaced the software to fix it"

Anonymous, FL (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE Electric)
    Other climate system problem

"The heat pump was not operating for some time. Since I had purchased this vehicle in the fall, I wasn't able to notice the issue until the following spring. Once I identified that the Air Conditioning wasn't operating on the first warm day of the year, I took it in for service. Diagnostics took about an hour while I waited for the vehicle. The dealer had initially tried recharging the system with new refrigerant, but when the charge evaporated within a few minutes, loaded dyed refrigerant into the system. The technician found that the expansion valve was damaged from the factory. Since the car was drivable, I took the vehicle back until the new expansion valve could come in the following week. Final repairs to replace the expansion valve took about three hours on the following appointment. I haven't had any other significant issues with the vehicle since."

Anonymous, IN (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL Electric)

    Paint And Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

    What Owners Say

    Other paint & trim problem

"The glossy black trim appears to be a factory-installed wrap rather than paint. The wrap is shrinking/pulling back from the edges in places. Dealer indicates they will replace the trim pieces under warranty"

Anonymous A., CA (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)

"Having the car washed in a regular car-wash doesn't resolve the issue; one needs to hand clean each door jam due to the amount of dirt that collects there"

Anonymous, MD (2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL Electric)

    Electric Motor

Electric drive failure, replacement or malfunction.

    What Owners Say
