The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen freezes up

"Infotainment screen/navigation screen intermittently has static/snowy screen and touch feature doesn't work during this time. Started about 1 month after purchase then recurs randomly almost monthly. Lasts about a minute or two each time it happens. Hyundai service team unable to replicate but shown several videos of the problem. They are working with Hyundai to approve replacing infotainment system. No updates in 5 weeks after diagnostics was done."

Anonymous A., NH (2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL Electric)
    Display screen goes blank

"The display screen over the steering wheel started to short out shortly after we purchased vehicle and then it went out completely. The car could still be driven but you could not see the speedometer or other display info. The other display screen to the right was fine. The dealer replaced the display cluster and we have had no further problems."

Anonymous A., NC (2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"The front compartment outlets for USB and 12 Volt do not work, and have never worked"

Anonymous, OR (2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Electric)
    Over-the-air software update failed

"Bluelink connection software was inoperable whe we took delivery. Dealer wanted to wait 5 weeks to fix."

Anonymous, FL (2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE Electric)

    EV Charging

Won't charge at home; won't work with some public chargers; won't fully charge; charge connection; charge port door.

    What Owners Say

    Charging port problem

"Vehicle stopped charging with level 2 charger around 3500 miles. Plug charger in and will only charge for about 20 minutes before the car stops the charting. Vehicle Charging Management recall issued by Hyundai in August 2024. After VCM update to the care, its still over heating on level 2 charger, ever at 30 amps and reduced the amps received by the car to 60%, charging at 3.5 kWh and still overheats and stops charging after 30 minutes. Hyundai will not fix the issue."

Anonymous, WA (2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)
    Won't charge at home

"Car fails to charge with level 2 charger, even after the having the car updated with the recent VCMS recall (Hyundai Campaign Number 985). Paid a lot of money to install a level 2 charger in my garage which is now useless. Took the car back to Hyundai dealership and they told me my car is operating as designed, however it was marketed to me as a fast charge on a home installed level 2 charger and that it would could easily charge with a 48 AMP level 2 charger. Dealership told me that it will still charge on a level 2 charger, just a lot slower, well, even at 3.0 kWH the charge port overheats and shuts off."

Anonymous, WA (2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)
    Won't fully charge

"Level 2 charging at home stopped before battery was 100% charged. This started right away so I had to reduce the charging rate to 60% to make it finish, taking longer time. There is a known charging issue for Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 (TSB 24-01-051H): Description in TSB: "Certain 2022-2024MY IONIQ 5 (NE1) and 2023-2024MY IONIQ 6 (CE1) vehicles may exhibit a condition while charging with a 240V AC (Level 2) charger where the vehicle experiences an interrupted charging session or a lower charging speed. This occurs to prevent potential damage to the charging cable connection. Follow the procedure in this TSB to update the software logic for the Vehicle Charging Management System (VCMS), which initiates a self-restart that allows the vehicle charging to return to full capacity once stabilized." This has not been resolved yet as I will get my screen and the TSB update done at the same time because it is a 3 hour round trip drive to the dealer service center to fix these and I would like to make one trip to reduce mileage on my low mileage leased car because I have already made two trips there for a different recall and diagnostics for the screen problem."

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    12V battery

"Components responsible for recharging the 12v battery kept breaking down, causing the low voltage system in the car to deplete. Hyundai dealerships were very reliant on diagnostic computers to try to diagnose the issue, which all came back clean. As a result, Hyundai engineers had to get involved and required the car to be in the shop for over 1.5 months."

Anonymous, IL (2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL Electric)

"We came back to a dead car after a 2 week vacation. It was a recall issue with the 12V battery and has been fixed Back window went down and would not go back up - they fixed that too"

Anonymous, WA (2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Electric)
    Wireless charging pad

"The wireless charging pad is extremely difficult to use. It has a delay to turn on, so it is difficult to know when you are aligned. Additionally, it has a tendency to get hot and shut itself off."

Anonymous, IL (2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL Electric)
