""1/10/24 the Santa Fe started having diminished power or no power after coming to a stop. The dealership could not find a problem even though the computer sent them a code. After the second time (1/30/24) this happened they had it for approx 1 week because they said they had to duplicate the problem, meaning they had to keep driving it. This was difficult because they don't have enough employees and time to make this happen. The third time (3/12/24)when it would not start after coming to a stop on a surface street, luckily my husband was in the car with our grandson and I and another driver stopped to help push the car out of traffic. We had the car towed to the dealership and they had it for approximately 2 months. I called the Hyundai US Headquarters and complained. We told them and the dealership that if it wasn't fixed we didn't want it back. The headquarters people keep in touch with the dealership and would give us reports. During this time we got no updates from the dealership. They were finally able to duplicate the problem and found the following "Lost communications with battery energy control Module A." "1Lost Communication with hybrid/ev powertrain control module." "Lost communication with MCU." "Lost communication with battery energy control module." "A fault in the H Can System at Connector EF21 PIN 5." They replaced the floor wire harness assembly on the vehicle. The whole experience was a nightmare and the dealership was less than helpful.""

"Two problems. #1 the alarm kept going off, indicating someone sitting in the backseat when the car was parked, and no one was in the car. (dealer disabled this feature) #2 turn signal located in the rear bumper is too small and low. It is not visible to following vehicles when in heavy traffic. (Extremely dangerous)!! I would not have purchased this vehicle had I realized the inadequate rear turn signal."

Anonymous, NC (2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid Unsure 1.6-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

""The system started knocking, and then the check engine light came on. Hyundai wanted the car off the road, but I was hundreds of miles from home. The vehicle rested for an hour, and then I continued to a nearby dealership. The dealership was unable to look at the vehicle for a day. I had to rent a vehicle, which was supposed to be covered under the warranty. The dealership, after examining the car, stated two of the injectors had failed and it would be three to four days to obtain them. The vehicle remained with the dealership, and I was in limbo. The repair was completed, and I didn't pay anything, except for my costs for staying and the rental vehicle.""

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Transmission rebuild or replacement

""While driving on the highway,I would set the cruise control. After about an hour, I would override cruise, such as to exit the highway. After coming to a stop, I would push on the excellarater and the car would barely go. It was stuck in a high gear. The odd thing was, if I turned off the car, water 2 minutes, and turned it back on, it would return to normal. This happened 3 times. No error codes and it didn't happen all the time. When it happened the 3rd time I carefully drove it to my Hyundai deal and they contacted engineers at Hyundai who decided the transmission and electric motor both needed replaced. The electric motor (directly attached to the transmission) was heating up to nearly 400 degrees F. That caused the electric motor to fail and locked up the transmission so it couldn't down shift. According to the Hyundai mechanic and engineers. Full coverage by warranty so I paid nothing and the dealer loaned me a car for 6 weeks while they wait e for the parts.""

Anonymous A., IA (2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid SEL 1.6-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Noticed a clicking sound when engine running. Dealer investigated. Transmission fluid dark and burnt. Diagnosed transmission problem. Hyundai contacted. Approved new transmission. Dealer installed new trans. Seems to be working again. Surprised it failed at only 35000 miles."

A series of problems were diagnosed among them were replacing some of the clutches. Everything was covered by warranty. I was told the transmission fluid was low and black. They let me know I may have future problems with the transmission. We dropped off our car right after Thanksgiving and got it back in mid February.
