    Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Oil leaks

"The seal and knob failed on the oil tank and caused a slow leak of oil"

Anonymous, NJ (2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Value 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Seems to be burning oil. Having to add oil between oil changes. Had leaks fixed, but still seems to be burning oil. Oil change place says this car seems to burn oil internally."

Anonymous, SC (2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Unsure Unsure)

"We noticed the leak soon after we bought the car. Went to two shops and they said it was leaking from the oil pan plug. We have since replaced the plug 3 times and it still leaks"

Anonymous, TN (2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Unsure 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
    Other minor engine problem

"Excessive oil consumption. Over 1 qt every 1,000 miles"

Anonymous A., IL (2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Ultimate 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

""The 2018 Santa Fe Sport (108,000 current miles) with the 2.4L base engine is driven approx 250 miles per week and I put 1 quart of oil in the engine every week. It started at about 60,000 miles using oil more than normal. I noticed that at that time I had to put a quart of oil for each 1000 miles driven. Now I will put approx 4 quarts of oil for every 1000 miles driven. I buy Penzoil Ultra 5w20 Full Synthetic oil and it cost just under $12 per quart. So the oil consumption problem is now costing me $48 per month. The vehicle does not leak any oil or any other fluids. The oil consumption problem doesn't seem to affect engine power. It has relatively decent power. It runs fine. I had a misfire on cyl number 2 so I have changed the spark plugs once at approx 100,000 miles and yes they were all gunked up with fried oil, but after changing them it seems to run well. That is THE problem and the only problem i know of with this vehicle.""

    Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.

    What Owners Say

    Engine rebuild or replacement

"Burning oil. Dealership monitored the oil. Next they did a big cleaning. Now we are on the list for an engine replacement."

Anonymous, IL (2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Unsure Unsure)

"The engine was burning oil at exceptional rate. One quart per every 300 miles. While in Hyundai required test, the car's engine blew. Cylinder failed. Hyuindai waited over 4 months to decide that they would not honor their 100,000 mile, ten year warranty on the engine."

    Anonymous A., GA (2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.4L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
    Other major engine problem

    Squeaks or rattles

"squeaky rattle from the right front sounds like wheel coming off"

Anonymous, CA (2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

""The problem began about 4 years ago and has never been solved and the sources have never been discovered. No one has been able to pin-point the noise even driving with a person in the back seat. It sounds like something is loose, but can't find it. Everything has been removed from storage and there is still rattles and noise. I t happens at any bump in the road or rough road.""

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery replacement, hybrid battery related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, spark plugs and wires failure, auto stop/start.

    What Owners Say

    Spark plugs or wires failure

"The car usually runs fine. Then one day, all of a sudden, the car started running very rough and It limped home. The next morning It started rough and ran rough and shook violently while running. I went to the local car parts store and bought a pack of spark plugs, and that solved the problem. The old spark plugs were very caked with gunk that i believe was burnt oil. This vehicle is driven about 1000-1250 miles per month and I put 4 quarts of oil per month into this engine per month. It is not leaking any oil at all. It burns oil at a rate so high that I put 1 quart of oil in the engine each Saturday morning. I check the oil every other day to make sure it is ok. When I check the oil Saturday morning it is usually just at or just below the MINIMUM mark on the stick. I put a quart of oil in and it bumps it back up to the FULL mark on the oil stick. Drive for a week and repeat the next Saturday. In my opinion the spark plugs were due for replacement anyway because the car had 108,000 miles on it at that time. But, the oil consumption is excessive and it gets expensive. I put Pennzoil Ultra Full Synthetic 5w20 oil in it and it costs about $11 per quart at the local auto parts store. That's about $572 per year if i drive the same mileage each week."

Anonymous, IA (2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.4L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Hardware replacement

"There is a large round plastic knob that controls the interior fan speed for the ac/heater inside the cabin of the vehicle. That quit working and the ac was fan was stuck in the ON position and it was stuck blowing on HIGH speed all the time. After a week of excessive noise on my long drive to work I couldn't stand the noise anymore. I got this one repair done at the local Hyundai dealership. The repair cost a total of $1306 (including around $230 for a diagnostic fee). This is a very excessive amount for a plastic knob. The reason it cost so much is that the plastic knob is mounted to a piece of hardware that is a circuit board. The entire circuit board had to be replaced and the part alone was around $800. My son also has a Hyundai Santa Fe with the same broken fan speed knob. Because my repair was so much money my son has decided NOT to repair his vehicle. He is just going to live with broken fan speed knob."
