"Check engine light came on flashing, throwing multiple codes. Mechanic stated timing chain broke which caused other issues. It was recommended to install a new/replacement engine rather than try to fix all of the issues caused by the timing chain failure."

"First and foremost, I think it is important to note that I firmly believe the paint peeling and cracking is a manufacturing defect- I began noticing the problem on other Hyundai Santa Fe 2008(beginning year of new body change)and have often stopped and spoken to the owners of those cars whom also have the same complaint- I stopped counting at 25 cars of which I either spoke with the owner a/o saw parked or on the road- It is a significant defect that appears to affect only the hood and around the windshield and this pattern has been the same in each of the cars I noted- I have noticed that it appears to only affect the cars painted white and again the 2008 model+/- The paint on my car began peeling approximately 3 years after I purchased it new in 2008 and after the warranty expired; however, I included the extended warranty but this paint problem was continuously denied- I attempted presenting the problem to Hyundai as a possible manufacturer defect but nothing ever came from it- So while it slowly worsened k er time and those areas have rusted over time, it really because bad and unsightly over the last year and a half- It is so ugly that I no longer drive it because I cannot afford to get the car properly professionally painted- I took it to a body shop for an opinion early on and then again more recently and the same equation is that it seems the car did not have the standard Clear Coat applied as the final step during assembly- I hope this helps and can possibly gain traction with Hyundai because I like my car, I am disabled and cannot afford a new car at this time and while I dont drive as often as I once did I would really like to have this car attractive when behind the wheel- Thank you"
