    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Catalytic converter

"The check engine light came on. OBDII diagnostic code was P0420. Took it to the Hyundai dealer. The catalytic converter had failed. This was the second time it has failed and second time it has been replaced under warranty"

Anonymous A., MO (2019 Hyundai Tucson Value 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Converter failed. Hyundai replaced it at no cost to me"

Anonymous, VA (2019 Hyundai Tucson SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Other/unsure

"little things keep braking like the door to the gas"

Anonymous A., FL (2019 Hyundai Tucson SE 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The Hyundai was purchased as a used car, within a few short months it was cutting out on the highways and byways, I took it into the dealership because it was far to dangerous to drive for everybody's safety. Up front I did not have a decent service manager/ customer relationship. I finally on the third attempt to have the problem resolved had the good fortune of one of the technicians walk past the service manager and I as we were discussing my problem, The tech said, "Oh I know all about that problem and can fix it, but it involves leaving the car overnight with me." Do it please says I. The service manager had given me B S stories from day one, starting with, Sir you just don't understand how to drive this type of car. I blew up at that B S, I spent a quarter century in uniform driving and operating just about every type of engineer heavy equipment the army purchased, as well as teaching drivers ed in hot and cold war zones. The second go round with him involved another lie about what caused the problem, He claimed that a mouse had set up housekeeping in an air filter. That one caused me to send off a form the dealership had for customer concerns that went directly to the owner. I received a reply, but nothing else. The service manager told me to take it to another Hyundia shop in another city. I was more than upset, I was very sick with the covid and unable to do anything clearly, I bought the Kia that day after seven hours sitting in the hard backed chair as the salesperson wracked her brain getting the whole thing sorted out. It was complicated because of the financing aspect of having still owed on the trade in. I still am a very angry former customer and if asked about how I was treated, I tell exactly how everything went down. The fourth trip after the good tech performed a miracle that lasted just a few months Caused me to not want to deal with the dealership anymore. I was in there for a final resolution because my passenger and I had nearly gotten into a multi vehicle incident the night before on a major highway."

Anonymous A., NH (2019 Hyundai Tucson Unsure)

    Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.

    What Owners Say

    Engine rebuild or replacement

    "Low oil pressure"

Anonymous A., CA (2019 Hyundai Tucson Limited 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Engine seized due to oil stopped circulating. Fairly common problem with these engines. It took more than 2 months for Hyundai to get rebuild and parts and install to fix it."

Anonymous A., AB (2019 Hyundai Tucson Value)

"The whole affair involved with the replacement was handled very well and I am happy with the dealership and the assistance I received from them. It was under warranty and I paid a prorated cost of $523.33 of the replacement cost."

Anonymous, MO (2019 Hyundai Tucson SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Other major engine problem

"Dealer has had our car for a month and still has not even called us about what the issue might be. I physically went to dealership and was told the vehicle had not been looked at, at all. That they were overwhelmed with other cars before ours. They are supposed to call me Monday (7/22/24)"

Anonymous, TX (2019 Hyundai Tucson Unsure)

    Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Engine knock or ping

"The engine knock sensor would trigger and put the car into some type of a safe mode that limited the horse power and speed of the engine and car. This happened twice while out of town and the dealer replaced the sensor each time, when it happened a third time I was in range of my own dealer and they identified it as an engine problem, they worked it out with the factory tech people and replaced the engine. I was able each time to drive the vehicle to reach a dealership and get help. The vehicle was not incapacitated and was usable, very frustrating but not as bad as complete stoppage would have been, so all in all, I was glad the system worked as it should."

Anonymous, MO (2019 Hyundai Tucson SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

An engine compartment fire can increase the risk of injury or crash.
    Summary:
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) recalled certain 2019-2021 Tucson vehicles on September 4, 2020. On December 30, 2020, Hyundai expanded the recall population, and added certain 2016-2018 Tucson vehicles. The Anti-lock Brake Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) could corrode internally and cause an electrical short, possibly resulting in an engine compartment fire.
    What should you do:
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the HECU fuse. For 2019-2021 model years, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) software will also be updated. Recall repairs will be performed free of charge. Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures as a precaution until the recall repair is complete. The recall began November 2, 2020. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 195.
    For more information:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
