The XF drives very nicely, with agile handling and a comfortable ride. Steering is quick and communicative. The standard V8 provides effortless acceleration and sounds great, but the car is no quicker than some six-cylinder competitors. We got 20 mpg overall on premium. The snug interior is nicely trimmed in wood and leather, but the coupe-like styling cuts into rear-seat room and access. A shifter knob that pops up out of the console and motorized dash vents put on a show when the car is started. The control touchscreen for audio and climate is slow to react, has small buttons, and washes out in sunlight.
