2011-
Current Generation

The somewhat radically styled 2011 redesign is much nicer than the model it replaces, making the big Jaguar a capable, comfortable, and fun-to-drive sports sedan offering a range of powerful V8s. We like the power and the plush appointments, but are unimpressed with the complex, slow-acting touchscreen. With seating for four, headroom is a little skimpy -- particularly in the back seat. Trunk space is also a bit lacking for a car of this size. Available safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. All-wheel drive was added as an option for the 2013 model year. A new XJR performance version, along with many safety features, were added to the 2018 model. The big cat made its final appearance for 2019.

2004-2010
2004 Redesign Year
For the 2004 model year, Jaguar went all-aluminum with its large luxury car, in an effort to improve performance and fuel economy. This version of the XJ has a rather tight cabin, albeit replete with plush leather and wood trim. The front seats are nicely shaped, but cramped. Long-wheelbase models comfortably hold three in the rear seat. We like its smooth and responsive drivetrain and easy-to-use controls. Handling is fairly nimble, though the steering is too light and ride quality is not as comfortable or quiet as you'd expect for a car in this category.
1995-2003
1995 Redesign Year

For years Jaguar kept polishing and perfecting an antiquated design by adding technological updates rather than starting anew. The XJ6's six-cylinder engine was smooth and powerful. Handling was crisp. The ride was well mannered. Except for the wind, little noise intruded. The front seats were nicely shaped, but cramped. Tall drivers needed more leg room. The rear seat comfortably held three. The control layout was greatly improved for 1995. It was renamed XJ8 in 1998 and received a V8 engine.
